I don't get it.
The lot that was just bought [ at Duke and Victoria] is a long way east of the proposed new terminal. It sits between the current GO-VIA station and the proposed new one.
Why is this land listed as being part of the new terminal? Or is it simply some kind of density upzone or somesuch?
My understanding is that the property at the corner of Weber & Victoria was intended to be used for construction staging and as a parking lot. But since the courts ruled that the homeless encampment couldn't be forcefully evicted, the Region needed to buy this property instead to advance this project.

See page 4:

Could they have used this money to house these people instead? Who knows... But as a KW resident, I'm very happy to see this project finally move forward.

Ah.
Thanks!

A report on the December 03, 2024 'Sustainability, Infrastructure, and Development Committee Agenda' is published regarding the proposed central station. I have attached the link to the agenda. The reports are found within section 7.1 of the agenda. Constriction is now set to begin in 2025, and the HUB is to be completed in 2029. Will we ever see this project get off the ground? However, exciting steps are being taken with the City of Kitchener, giving the Region the assumption of Duke St, between Briethaupt and Victoria! : https://pub-regionofwaterloo.escrib...-b07a-cfd9214f8d80&Agenda=Agenda&lang=English

Any update on this? In December they said shovels in the ground in March… well, March has come and gone and I’ve seen nothing… they did announce that before the water supply issue. It just would be nice to see anything done on this as this is like the 6th delay

^Not sure about construction but the city is about to clear an encampment that is currently on the site and that it is absolutely necessary for the next phase.

This CTV article is informative.
From the article:
In court of Thursday, lawyers for the Region of Waterloo said Metrolinx plans to start construction in October 2026 and to prepare the land for Metrolinx, the region needs it vacant by June.

Ohhh thanks for sending this over! So basically the Region successfully transitioned everyone living there to different housing / living and in that time new people moved in… I know it’s a touchy subject but if you ask me it’s crazy that the city has to bend over backwards for people who don’t own the land.
