I didn't know this was going on. Is there going to be a new ambulance bay? That door seems fairly small with only curb lane to service the busy emergency arrivals. Is the old entrance going to be redeveloped now that this one is complete?

I’d imagine the current entrance would remain as an ambulance-only facility, which is quite common at hospitals now. No point having ambulance admissions pass through the triage and waiting room.

the whole purpose of this project was to build a new underground ambulance facility accessed off a ramp from Bond St. the Shuter St facility has been too small and lacked privacy for far too long. The new facility has like 4x the space.

That sounds great. I agree that the Victoria St. ambulance bay had become too small and poorly located given the activity on that corner with Massey Hall, Pantages Hotel and theatres letting out. Is the new underground ambulance bay in place now with this new addition? I walked by but didn't go around Bond.

Somehow I'm imagining the underground police station garage from Robocop 😂

So I went today because my husband had a seemingly infected toe (with type 2 diabetes = emergency). I can confirm that the inside of the facility is cheap, ugly, and still a bit disorganized, with an added "pre-triage" step in a small corner devoid of any space for a support person (said husband is essentially deaf) and the longest wait time I've ever experienced there.

I would encourage you to send a note to Patient Relations. Not about the finishes, unfortunate though that is........

But definitely about the need for space for a support person. A proper explanation about that might result in action.

There's probably little point in mentioning the wait, except perhaps, if expressed with a tone of 'how can I assist, ie, is there a funding problem from Queen's Park) maybe, they'll share some information or discuss it internally if only for the sheer novelty.

No harm trying.

Here's the page with the contact form, or, if you prefer, there's a phone number on the page.

Thank you, I will contact them. I was surprised to see such an improvised setup. The old reception area, while decrepit, worked a lot better. Now, when you enter, there are two security guards behind glass, then you go through another door and there is a long ramp to get to reception. Anyone with mobility issues should probably go to Toronto General.
