Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

The Lower Don Trail is on to its umpteenth Project Manager so I emailed him for an update and got this, fairly optimistic and speedy response.

The trail is well on track to be opened this spring, with a current target opening of late April/early May 2026. The project website will be updated once a firm date is established, which we anticipate finalizing in April.
Chances are, the East Don Trail should be done around that time as well! :)

It's Rafie right? I saw he took over a few months back. At least he was a name that had been associated with the project prior so he's not like a noob in the space. But yes, it's been well over a decade of studies, failed tenders, delays and shlemazels to get to this point.

Utility work on the Main St-Victoria Park Ave stretch of Danforth Ave has begun. This was marked as a bikeway renew project, but I’m not sure if it will also be upgraded to cycle tracks.

Its already a cycle track.

What will change here is that the cycle track will be raised at bus stops, that side street cross walks will be raised, that some of the curb extensions will be made permanent and planted, same with some of the bump outs around the parking, and finally there will be some modifications to the separation, including 1 or 2 planters.

Here are the slides:

Please feel free to move this post if it's in the wrong place BUT now that the Regent Park redevelopment continues along Gerrard St E, does anybody know what's going on with the plan for a bi-directional cycle path on the south side? Both the fate of the project and timelines?

I'm aware of the city's notice posted in January 2026 saying they are examining plans because of the provincial legislation. But the plan for the Regent Park section appears to keep all the existing lanes, so potentially could proceed.

Anyway, here's the relevant slide from the city's presentation:

Cross-post from the Shabby Public Realm thread. Does anyone know what the intended purpose of these mesh screens was? They were a later add-on to the metal guards along the road. Were they suppose to protect cyclists from cars splashing water on them during the rain?
The snow plows were not kind to this stretch of the Martin Goodman trail along Lake Shore (between Roncy and Jameson). Not sure why these stainless mesh screens were tacked onto the metal barriers to begin with, but they were obviously installed without taking the snow clearing into consideration.

If the projection is April, I'd say it opens in September. The Lower Don Trail project has been going on since April 2023! Three plus years to build some stairs at Dundas, a ramp at Riverdale Park and shore up and then resurface the bike path. And most of the time you walk by this project there's nobody working, presumably because they're waiting for components to arrive or short on labour.

Yes, it has been one of the most pathetically 'planned' and executed Park's projects (and, god knows, there are others which could claim this title) but I think that what remains to be finished can actually be done in 6 weeks and I still (wishfully!) hope to see a late April opening. Of course, there is more work needed closer to Pottery Road so it will probably be close again soon enough.

not just on the MGT. The first photo here is from Eglinton West separated bikeway, west of Scarlett road. These things were really poorly thought out and installed, though I assume you're right that plows are what dislodged them. I reported to 311. We shall see what they do. The MGT ones are right by the Ghost Bike for Xavier, the kid who died almost a decade ago when his bike fell onto the roadway. :/ In that sense I welcome the fences, but the mesh screens are trash.
