Line 5 is only useful if you destination is on line 5. If it's the airport, you'll have to wait for the UPX anyways so better off with GO.

If you need to get to the 52 Lawrence West corridor, it is almost always better to get the 52 from Lawrence West Station. Man getting to Mount Dennis Station from Etobicoke is a mission if you're not taking the 32. Until the actually start that 901, it's much better to either take the bus across to Line 1 (especially off peak and in the evenings) from Etobicoke or down to Line 2.

The first "subway" in North America opened in Boston in 1897, using the streetcars at the time. Today, it has FOUR branches, with a daily ridership of 101,200 (2022).

In the west end of Toronto's Line 5, I can see a branch leaving Mt. Dennis Station to go north under Jane Street to Pioneer Village Station (or Highway 407 Station). South of Highway 400/Black Creek Drive, it can be underground; and north of it, it can be on the surface. His only interest in burying transit was because he thought it would improve car traffic. He was against streetcars because he felt they were too hard to pass when driving. He was famously unaware of which parts of the transit city plan were grade separated. I'm not a fan of the transit city plan, but he wanted to cancel the Scarborough lrt (that was not going to be built on a road) because it would be in the way of cars. He was completely clueless about transit and his opinions on transit came exclusively from his experience of it from his SUV.

Rob Ford was openly antagonistic to transit and transit riders.
 
I was on an eastbound train that got stuck at Avenue with a medical emergency.

We were told to go to the westbound platform and sure enough an eastbound train came to pick us up there. We went into the middle track and crossed back to the normal eastbound platform at Eglinton.
 
What happened to the “please stand clear of the platform edge” announcement and the “the next train to arrive on the westbound platform will be for mount Dennis” announcements, seems like all station announcements were removed or muted

If someone were to stand at the edge of the platform when the train is arriving, I'm sure they would hear something. (Not that I'm advising you try it!)

You aren't alone. The capability to play recorded announcements is like a new toy, for TTC and Metrolinx also. It is very much overused.

This week I rode a GO train where the various safety, security, and public service announcements started as the train left Union and were still going on as we passed through the Strachan tunnel. And then they started all over again at Bloor. Ironically, one announced the "quiet car" policy for the upper level. Not much point having a quiet car policy when the PA is going non-stop.

The PA system on Crosstown seems to have a ML flavour to it. I hope this is corrected.

In fact, in the time between the MOU signing (March 31, 2011) and the end of December, I thought TTC and Metrolinx were planning some type of elevated option through here. I was hoping for elevated all the way to Kennedy. Instead, they were planning the overthrow of Ford - putting politics above transit is what I called it.

Rob would have had his way if he brought the MOU to council right away during that early window when he was winning votes. McGuinty was consistent in saying that council had to approve the MOU, but that idea never penetrated Rob's thick head.
 
Yeah, its very very hard for this city to make concessions like this in our road infrastructure. Just look at the road ways around Eglinton and Black Creek, just on the other side of this project. Let alone the airport area.

I'm shocked we're getting these changed made, considering how strong the car lobby is.
