Hopefully the TTC is willing to open this Line mid-board period if Feb 8 is missed, just like they did with Line 6
Progress, Steve Munro has a few comments on it at https://stevemunro.ca/2026/01/09/will-line-5-eglinton-open-in-february/

How 'bout an opening date target of April Fool's Day?Thankfully, not February 2nd. Groundhog Day.

Better than the 30thFebruary 29th?

The problem is the bus network needs to run as current if the line is not opened or those routes need to be truncated if the line does open. So either the line opens on Feb 8 or the need two different schedules. He posted a memo from the TTC to operators indicating that the sign-up for the February Board Period was delayed from January 14th, to January 21st (this Wednesday to next Wednesday)
The memo indicates the reason for delay as the need to create a revised board that incorporates line 5 operations.

The Board Period begins Sunday, February 8th.
While this does not mean an opening date would be February 8th, that would likely be the preferred target. But the date would be within the Board period in question.
Could not the bus network stay the way it is for a month or two after Line 5 opens? That would mitigate any possible problems. As for cost, it's nothing compared to the billions wasted so far.The problem is the bus network needs to run as current if the line is not opened or those routes need to be truncated if the line does open. The switches on line 5 aren't in concrete and also have a different type of heater on themGiven the constant switch issues on Line 6, what is the likelihood of an early February Crosstown launch?
For Metrolinx, that's a task failed successfully! The switches on line 5 aren't in concrete and also have a different type of heater on them
Which is only one issue. If Eglinton is equally fail on travel times, I can see TTC waiting. The switches on line 5 aren't in concrete and also have a different type of heater on them
