I think it's a culmination of a few things. As much maligned as Metrolinx is, it is the catalyst for getting projects started again in Toronto after a long drought. It started with the previous Liberals, but to his credit Ford didn't take an anti transit stance like many conservative leaders across North America. He's been fairly supportive as conservatives go
 
Eglinton LRT next update will come in "Late January", probably looking at March at the earliest at this point I imagine.

"However it eventually became clear it would not open by the end of 2026."

LINE NOT OPENING UNTIL 2027 - might as well wait a couple more years and open it up alongside the EG LRT W Extension lol

Genuinely can't believe another year has gone by without an opening date announcement. It really seemed like 2025 would be the year 🤡

Isn't there a 90 day deadline to get the LRT open after substantial completion? I remember reading something like that a while ago, but I can't seem to find anything about it anymore
 
It seems like the opening of this line is in a perpetual 3 months away.
At least the West extension is visbile moving ahead at a good pace, still shocked it will not open until 2031

West Extension I feel will open before the 2029 Ontario Elections.. its making solid progress.
 
the geniuses running the city had years to get organized about TSP. yet they wait for Finch to go be a disaster before addressing it. they have known based on the thousands of miles of testing what the impact of not having TSP is.
how quickly can it realistically be enabled?

A half elevated half tunneled LRT running from Renforth to Weston before the actual Line 5 opens would be hilarious. A true Ford Express if there ever was one.

It’s true that they need to open it within 30 days, it’s explicitly stated in the project agreement
 
The consequence of breaching that agreement is presumably a financial or administrative penalty: they'll have to start paying for maintenance and operations expenditures which they aren't actually using, that sort of thing.

Not like people will go to jail if the line opens late.
