Finch West Line 6 LRT

Cringe...

Line 6 from Finch West to Humber College beats 2 buses including transfer by only 7 minutes.

Though one has 6 minutes of walking. There were some weird walking times at Finch West station when I was playing with it (though I've had it telling me before it takes 5 minutes to walk from the Woodbine station bus stop to the subway platform - it's 30 seconds up the stairs when I know the bus is about to leave! :)

I went out on Wedesday to ride the 36C and see how it will compare with Line 6. I had a really annoying trip where the operator just abandoned the bus one stop away from Humber College and went into a Starbucks for eight minutes.

At least that shouldn't happen on Line 6.

I have no issues with drivers stopping along the route for either a pit stop or to grab something to drink. When nature calls, you may not have enough time to wait tell the end of the trip.
.
Depending on the route, drivers have no choice to stop along the route to get something to drink or want something different than what may be found at the end of the route. In some cases, they need more to drink, especially on hot days. Some drivers will inform the riders what they are doing, well others say nothing at all. Being behind the wheel for long or short hours has its challenges.

Been on many buses and streetcars when this happens, and take it as a fact of life. On a few streetcars in the past where drivers are asking to be relieved as they had finished their shift hours ago and told there was no one to relieve them and continue to operate. A few have said to the riders I passed by operation hours with no one to relieve that you will have to wait until someone shows up, as I am leaving the car here now.

Don't know what drivers can grab at the end of the line since we have yet to see anything with a driver having only a few spots to grab something to drink along the line.

Please read my complete post. I noted a few issues when riding that bus, and that a Starbucks and a public washroom is very close to the Humber College bus loop as well.

An emergency bathroom break I can see. Or other health/heat stress situation - otherwise just fill your flasks with water, coffee (or both) at the terminus.

One stop before the terminus? That's a bit much. Hopefully they left the door open, and didn't imprison everyone on the bus.

Depends on what app you use... unsure how Google interpolated as I prefer to use Transit or Citymapper apps as I've found better accuracy with routes I frequent. In this case it looks like transit is following the schedule.

You're also including some walking in your trip, I'm unfamiliar but assume the bus drop off point is closer somehow? Let's wait and see what real life gives us...

What it looks like today for example:

Unfortunately there isn’t a washroom or coffee shop at the end of every route. Very often you’ll see operators stopping near the end of the route (hopefully inconvenience the less amount of riders) to do their business. They are allowed to do this as along as they communicate.
Sometimes they depart the terminal early to do that too which is not acceptable unless it’s a real emergency.

I have even seen operators run quickly to grab a lighter or cigarette mid route as that is more difficult to obtain.

Clearly Humberwood Loop is not a place where anyone can buy coffee or refill their water bottles. Nor a place to relief themselves. So I don’t blame them.

You can't get a coffee at Humber College, or use a bathroom at 12:45 pm on a Wednesday?

Admittedly TTC needs to step up their washroom/vending machine/coffee machine game at terminals. But that doesn't mean that complete idiocy shouldn't be disciplined. Operative word "complete".

I certainly have had no complaints when a TTC operator jumps out mid-route on a 325, running early, tells everyone they are grabbing a coffee, asks if anyone else wants to come too, and is back in 3 minutes.

You are forgetting the 36C terminates at Humberwood loop not Humber College Station.

That bus terminal is also a few minutes walk to anything and a terrible transfer to the LRT.

Uh, no. I wasn't thinking about the future station - I didn't think there were buses stopping there yet.

I had though, assumed, that the bus stop to Humber College was closer to Humber College than the subway station. I confess I've only driven there!

At the same time - getting a coffee? Get a proper Thermos or Yeti. Probably safer and warmer.

The 36 goes past Humber College. The route doesn’t end there.

Ah I see the issue. The bus in question (the 36C) goes to Humberwood Loop - which is past the loop at Humber College. I was not aware of that. Mea culpa.

Not the clearest naming. Hmm, and why is a loop on a longish street like Humberwood, called Humberwood Loop? What happened to using the cross street - which would make it Westowanis Loop. :)

Oh well - I guess this won't be a problem soon. When do they start stopping at Humber College station? Sunday?

They are suppose to serve the terminal both directions but not idle there like the 927 and 996 does unless there are super early.

As an old guy remembering something that happened to me 50 years ago...
I had a job that started at midnight, and the bus route I took there, only ran once an hour.
There were typically about 10 passengers, with a few getting on at random bus stops.
One night, the driver decided to take an unscheduled detour to make a long unscheduled stop.
Almost made me late for work. But nothing compared to how other people must have felt, waiting at bus stops that never got served.
I only saw this happen once. Assuming someone complained (it wasn't me), I'm not surprised.
Bus route name/number withheld, but perhaps you can figure it out.

The Humber College bus terminal perhaps. But what about the station? I assume they are going to be using (for eastbound) the stops at the SW corner of Humber College

I'm not sure why the 336 stops there but the 36 doesn't.
