Im curious what a normal pedestrian think of the facade when they cross the street? not a traditional Toronto grey facade so they probably notice that.
What's a normal pedestrian? My friend who sneered at it saying it looks like a crushed tin can, or the one that was wowed by it?

The Forma bashers are interesting. “The One will be a more standout tower than F Gehry’s design”!? You jest. By no means. Not in the least. On no account. Maybe wait until the tower is a quarter built at least. You don’t appreciate beautiful, shiny, crumpled, child-like chaos designed by the iconic hometown kid? For shame. As long as this beautiful behemoth doesn’t leak, then I’m good. Best news yet, second tower incoming w upgraded surrounding streetscapes.

Type of ass to say "my kId cOuLd dO tHaT" when he sees any abstract painting
Yup! I'm all too familiar with that kind of comment. Or the general tenor of it, at least. Though most people have at least a shred of civility and hold their tongue, their body language tends to signal their skepticism and cynicism.

The true proof of the pudding is when you ask them what they consider good art/design/architecture. Not liking the style is one thing; preference for the poorly envisioned/expressed/designed/constructed is another.

"I judge people with different opinions" is a weird take. People are allowed to evaluate based on what they've seen so far. I've already given objective rationale for why I think this is being handled less than ideal; the exposed fasteners, and poor corner handling being the most obvious signs. Just take a look at this post, and the corner handling is immediately obvious. Design might be subjective, but the structural engineering complexity of this compared to The One is not subjective; it's obvious which tower is "superior".

With that said, why are we even arguing over this? I started my earlier post by saying that I like this tower; even though the design is not my cup of tea, it's still in the top 5 towers under construction in the city right now. This imaginary scenario in your head where anyone who prefers The One is talking down about Forma is unnecessary.

I'll set aside the aesthetic discussions du jour to ask a semi-serious question; do you think they modeled the impacts of the reflectivity?

I'm just looking at how reflective this seems to be in low winter light conditions........and I can't help it......Walkie-Scorchie popped into my head. (google that or 20 Fenchurch if you don't know)

That's exactly what I thought. I hope they did model it, or cars parked on surrounding streets would melt on sunny days.

That building reflected light in a way that focused it, the crinkles on this building will reflect light in a way that diffuses it into many directions. A truly massive amount of reflected light all must be reflected to the same focal point for a walkie scorchie effect. I don't think a study would have been needed on reflective points here, the way this cladding reflects due to its waviness at a panel level and lack of larger building curve means by the laws of optics this building cannot create a scorchie effect.

I mention before the issue with the .Walkie-Scorchie is not with its reflectiveness but with its shape...as its concave shape bent sunlight reflected into a more concentrated area. I don't think this will have quite the same issue here as the light will be more reflected away.

...what I can see happening is at certain points of a bright sunny day this tower would be hard to look at without searing the backs of retinas. Hope that's never the case though.

Edit: And what @A Torontonian Now said above me.

This song should be their soundtrack:
