Brampton Transit/Zum

It represents a gigantic improvement to Steeles West adding service to evening, all of Saturday and Sunday for the 511, as well as adding peak and midday service on weekdays to the 511 West plus improving all time periods.

Attached is January 2025 service frequency.

Media release from the City. I can never tell when they use the word "adjusted" if these are increases/decreases in service. I guess I'd have to cross-reference with the existing schedule. Maybe some experts here can easily spot improvements.
TLDR; Züm service is being introduced on the entirety of Steeles at all times. The frequency is not great at many times, but it's still an improvement. Big improvements between Sheridan and Gateway, smaller, but still substantial improvements east of Gateway. It seems as though 511A service is being combined into the 511C and extended to Sheridan; if I read that wrong, please correct me.

With all the warmer weather we're getting, construction on Chinguacousy Zum has resumed, and a significant portion of the southbound sidewalk on Chinguacousy / Fairhill Avenue has been removed to make way for conduit, and the pouring of concrete.

Chinguacousy / Fairhill, Chinguacousy / Fandor Way, and Chinguacousy / Williams Parkway have seen the traffic signals at those intersections replaced with temporary signalling for vehicles and pedestrians, and more smaller work is continuing along the corridor with trenching and the eventual resurfacing of those areas involved.

I have been informed this will be the schedule for the PICs for the Fall service improvements
· Tuesday, April 1 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Cassie Campbell Community Centre

· Thursday, April 3 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Bramalea Transit Terminal

· Tuesday, April 8 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Gore Meadows Community Centre

· Thursday, April 10 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Brampton Gateway Terminal

The Annual Service Plan will go live online on April 1st, along with a survey for feedback, which will remain open until April 10th.

Nothing really exciting or surprising there. There aren’t the usual proposals for specific service improvements. 504 Chinguacousy still planned for Fall 2026 (as is additional 505A to Pearson) and 515 Bramalea plans are “ongoing.”

I guess it does spare them from previous years where proposed improvements didn’t happen, and lets them be a little more flexible.

It's good to see that they have a new tentative date for Chinguacousy Zum. From my previous correspondence with Brampton Transit, they intended to launch it in 2024, but that date disappeared due to the setbacks of the HMLRT. Hopefully this means we're closer to both things and their launch dates - If not one launching after the other.

The two other big things that stand out to me are the connections for the 505 to Pearson which should help the overcrowding on the 115 at Bramalea. It'll definitely bring more people from the west end to the airport, especially if they work there. If BT does introduce regular service artics across different routes, the 115 would definitely benefit from it.

The other thing that stands out to me is the night network. While it sounds like a great idea in practice, It comes across as a pipe dream.

I'm definitely going to have to visit them in person to see if I can learn more about these changes, because while I do see some new suggestions, there are still some older suggestions (realignment of many routes) that I'm curious about.

Why don't they just extend the 7 Kennedy?

The 7 Kennedy is a busy route. Caledon sets the budget for what it is willing to pay for transit service; it is considerably less than the service provided on the 7. The 81 also feeds into the 502 directly at Sandalwood Loop; the 7 doesn’t. So for now, the routing is logical.

Here's some photos around the Chinguacousy / Fairhill, and Chinguacousy / Duffield section. There isn't much else work happening in other areas. Once there is, I'll return for more photos.

Chinguacousy / Fairhill (Southbound) - The retaining wall was pushed back a few feet and concrete poured into the section.

Chinguacousy / Duffield (Northbound)

Previously, they had this whole section open to below for utility trenching and prep for the concrete pouring. They've since tarped it off after pouring the concrete in some sections, while other sections are still dirt.
