Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

The Eglinton-Allen intersection gets its own mention:
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I made a redesign of the intersection, It is probably terrible but at least it has cycle tracks.

but tbh anything might be better than the current setup
Eg N Allen-01.png

Its certainly a very colourful render!

I think the challenge is both the long term (should the Allen even exist south of Yorkdale mall (my answer is 'no')

And the short-term, how busy is it, how busy does it need to be, can we simplify?

I have many thoughts on this. But you can find those if you poke through the old Allen thread..........

Anything downtown or has that all been shelved temporarily?

The stuff that was underway downtown, approved last year, like Leckie is still going to get done this year.

Other projects (anything that involves removing a vehicle lane for any distance were on hold, pending confirmation from the province on what they would allow and/or remove.

Upgrades of existing bike lanes to cycle tracks or better cycle tracks will still be on the table in various spots. (see Bedford above). But I'm not sure how much will make it out the other end.

There should be another report coming in May, hopefully a bit larger than this one, but we shall have to see.

Any indication the city will take funds dedicated for new lanes and put it towards making some existing ones permanent?

There are upgrade projects programmed. But I'm not sure how many were advanced enough in design, to move forward before the province upended everything.

Also, most, but not all of those upgrades are tied to major roadwork happening at the same time.

We will see some new Meadoway Trail this year, and the upgrade of the Rosdale Valley Trail as well.

There's others stuff I'm hopeful to see, but I don't have anything firm to bring forward.

Theoretically, could a lane by changed to parking and a few years later changed to a bike lane and be clear of this law? Maybe we don't know at this point.

So Portland is becoming 1-way next October apperently. Dan leckie to the bridge is 100% complete

define "removing a vehicle lane" because doesnt that classify under the law?

If the City passed the relevant by-laws prior to the provincial legislation on cycle tracks, then it can go ahead.

Regardless, the province is unconcerned with a street like Portland.

Etobicoke businesses sue city over Bloor Street bike lanes

Excerpts:

More than 40 Etobicoke business owners have joined in a lawsuit against the City of Toronto, its transportation manager and Coun. Amber Morley over the dedicated bike lanes installed along Bloor Street West in 2023 and 2024.

The group is seeking $10 million from the city for “negligence and nuisance.” It’s suing Barbara Gray, general manager, transportation services, and Morley (Ward 3 Etobicoke-Lakeshore) for “misfeasance of public office,” according to the statement of claim, filed in Ontario Superior Court on Friday.
The businesses are alleging that the city’s planning, consultation and implementation were “willfully lacking in candour, frankness and impartiality” and breached the duty of care the city owed them.

The statement of claim also accuses the city of manipulating and/or misrepresenting the study data, bicycle counts and the public consultation process.
According to the statement of claim, Morley misrepresented the nature and extent of public consultations, failed to conduct adequate door-to-door consultations with businesses, and gave preferential treatment to CycleTO, a pro-cycling group.

Etobicoke businesses sue city over Bloor Street bike lanes
anyone have the list of the businesses so I can never visit them?

here is the full article:

P.S. I know this is petty, but if the bike lanes get removed there should be a compete street parking ban on Bloor there and these business can cry about it, after all the rationale is to get cars moving (not standing still).

Excerpts:

I don't see how this doesn't get dismissed with costs awarded.

Its the City's road, absent provincial legislation to the contrary, the City can do with it as it pleases, make it one-way, ban turns, add or remove lights, to the best understanding I have this discretion is black letter law.

There is no right to a set number of lanes of traffic, or a particular speed limit etc.

Set aside the issue of the bike lanes, allowing this suit to go forward would create an unholy mess for every municipality in Ontario. It would open any and every project of all types to armchair quarterbacking.

Hard no.
