Shoot Port Credit LRT station location and noticed RR bridge needs some work which isn't surprise considering it was built in 1963. Soil testing is taking place where a 4th GO track can go, just west of bridge support as well an existing track.

The creek on the north side will have to be box in to allow the LRT line to get under the RR tracks.

They can do either a cut and fill to built the tunnel under the tracks in phases that will see the tracks relocated or be dug out with out moving the tracks

Brampton Gateway Terminal

I was hoping to see details about the Brampton Gateway Terminal. Originally, the stop was going to be on the north side of Steeles, with crosswalk connections to the Brampton Transit buses. Then it moved to the south side of Steeles with a proposed underground connection with elevators and an escalator.
Now that a new Brampton Council is committed to a northerly extension along the original Main Street route, will the platform be on the north side of Steeles again?

In 2015, Brampton City Council decided that the Hurontario LRT would not extend past Hurontario, south of Steels Avenue. Our current design terminates south of Steels Avenue at Brampton Gateway Terminal at the request of City of Brampton staff in 2018. This is a popular question and as you will see in earlier responses, the City of Brampton is currently leading a study to extend the Hurontario LRT from Brampton Gateway Terminal to Brampton GO Station. The extension is not part of the current HuLRT project scope.
While there was a request for an underground connection from the platform south of Steeles to the Gateway Terminal, this was never included as part of the Hurontario scope.

So pedestrians will have to cross Hurontario and Steeles to get to the bus terminal, waiting for multiple through and left-turn signals. Metrolinx isn't going to make the simple change of moving the terminal back to the north side.

That time the City of Brampton shot itself in the gonads is the gift that keeps on giving.

Apparently it was never part of the scope

Staff presented a concept to the previous Council but there was never a solid plan on how to pay for it and it doesn't appear the previous Council did any work to fund it or ask for funding.

Council amended the staff report on the LRT Extension Study indicating they would still like to see the stop on the north side.

It would be very foolish both on Metrolinx and the Province part not addendum the contract to move the station north with the cost being part of addendum or Brampton pickup the cost. We are only talking cost wise adding about 400' of double track only and signal control. Doing so would put the station back to where it was to go in the first place.

Still lot lots of time to design the extension, since this year is for final surveying to design the system in detail. Real work starts next year, other than the MF that underway now.

I don't know where the redevelopment of Port Credit GO Station stands at this time, but all timeline for it has pass starting with the parking structure. I stand to be corrected, but wasn't there an idea of moving the platform to the east to go over Hurontario St so it tie in with the LRT better than the current layout??? There has been a plan that the current south platform would become a centre platform when the 4th track was to be built.

If you look at the east end today, there is a 4th track there and it line up going on the south side of the current platform. It would require moving everything south with a retaining wall to support that 4th track.

Thank you for responding to my previous question. I have a follow up, though, about the pedestrian experience at Steeles and Hurontario. The Gateway Terminal was designed with the LRT in mind, and it would have had two crosswalk connections between trains and buses (on the north side, across from Food Basics, and at Steeles Avenue). It would have minimized the amount of road lane crossed, making it safer and easier to transfer.
With the LRT terminus on the south side, this will require anyone transferring to Brampton Transit or going to Shoppers World to cross Hurontario and Steeles Avenue. This will be much more dangerous as pedestrians will have to cross 8 or 9 lanes of traffic, and wait for multiple traffic light cycles.
Will there be any improvements to accommodate the thousands of passengers forced to transfer here daily?

Thank you for your questions. As noted above any extension beyond the terminus south of Steeles is not within the current project scope. The safety of our customers and the community is central to all of our project plans, your feedback is appreciated. Plans are for customers to exit the light rail train and wait for the signal to cross before walking across the intersection to the sidewalk on either the east or west side of the street.
The City of Brampton has recently launched an online engagement opportunity for a planned LRT extension study, you can find more information on how to participate here: www.BramptonLRT.com.

From what it sounds like, "because there is an arbitrary border at Steeles, we have resolved to inconvenience Bramptonians as much as possible to really stick it to their municipal government for constantly flip-flopping on this line." Another forum user posted a drawing for a tunnel between the LRT platform and the terminal when Brampton cut the line to Steeles (I believe it was page 194 of this thread), I guess this response confirms that the tunnel has been dropped and patrons need to brave the suburban roads. Must be nice to be in the timeline where Brampton decided not to shoot themselves in the foot by cancelling their portion.

There is no border at Steeles here. The Mississauga-Brampton border is closer to the 407.
 
The 2015 Brampton council decision to terminate the LRT at Steeles Avenue and explore longer, meandering routes for the benefit of affluent homeowners on Main Street was a terrible desicion, and I see it as just one example of how systemic racism manifests in transit decision making.


Though the new council has committed to Main Street again, Metrolinx is still planning for the south side LRT terminus, affecting thousands of daily transit riders.
