Request For Proposals Closed For Hurontario LRT Project

The request for proposals stage has closed for teams to submit their bids to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.
Following a fair, open and transparent request for qualifications process, three teams were shortlisted and invited to respond to a request for proposals in August 2017. Two teams - Mobilinx and Trillium Transit Partners - submitted their proposals by today's deadline.
Over the next several months, submissions will be evaluated and a successful bidder is expected to be announced in early fall 2019. A fairness monitor is observing the entire procurement process.

Our Mississauga Office is open! While an official opening event is being scheduled with MTO, our staff has moved in. Our Brampton office is almost there, we’re just working through a hiccup with signage.



The store front office located at 3024 Hurontario St in Cooksville is (finally) open to the public. Businesses and residents can visit the office during open hours to discuss all things Hurontario LRT. Both locations will offer workshops geared towards helping businesses prepare for construction, starting with helping them build their online brand. A full schedule will be released shortly after the grand opening event.



While the key focus of the offices will be community relations for the Hurontario LRT, the team has broadened focus to include Metrolinx projects across Peel Region. The team will now support our GO stations at Port Credit, Cooksville, Clarkson, Erindale, Brampton, Malton, Bamalea, Lisgar and all the GO bus stations in between.


The Peel Regional Community Relations team has always been ready to take questions on Metrolinx projects along with the Hurontario LRT, now that practice is official.

Ongoing Construction:

Preparatory work for the project continues as utility companies relocate communication cables and underground structures along the Hurontario LRT route. Utility companies including Alectra, Enbridge, Bell, Rogers and more are working in various sections of Hurontario on specific projects.



The Community Relations teams works very closely with each utility and telco service to ensue community notices are sent to all properties within a 500 meter radius of the construction site and to hand deliver notices to impacted store-fronts prior to work beginning. We also offer a digital notice to any interested multi-tenant units and businesses.

Construction in Mississauga Centre:



Enbridge crews have started work on Hurontario Street between Matthews Gate and Fairview road and are expected to finish in 18 weeks.

Enbridge work has also begun at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue and Hurontario Street. This project will take approx. 2 months to complete.

22 months for the HMLRT RFP? I really hope the government change slowed things down as that seems unnecessarily long.

If that scales linearly by cost the GO Expansion RFP might not close until 2030 :)

Nope, part of the Major Water System for the city and Region
 
There's a relevant Brampton City Council report now available.

In May council directed staff to relocate the proposed Brampton Gateway LRT back to the north side of Steeles Avenue. This eliminates the need for a tunnel, elevators, and escalators between the LRT and the bus terminal. It also reflects the new council's desire to push forward with a direct LRT extension to Downtown.

In the long term, the LRT station and bus terminal might be integrated into the Shoppers World redevelopment.

I guess that makes sense if the line is going to be extended further north. Otherwise no point crossing Steeles for no reason.

The Brampton bus terminal is on the North side of Steeles (which was stated in the previous posts).

You want to encourage people to transfer to the LRT...with such a inhospitable transfer they may just drive.

It's a trade off; either an extra 50 metre street crossing for pedestrians, or one extra intersection for the LRT vehicle to have to pass through. If the line is planned to extend north (and will have to cross Steeles anyways) puting the platform on the north side is a no-brainer.

Metrolinx intends to issue a Request for Quote and Qualifications(“RQQ”) for Technical Advisor Services for the 18km Hurontario LRT Project during the construction phase. The scope covers, but is not limited to, design review of all construction submissions from the Project Company, compliance and quality oversight, site activity and schedule monitoring, support on variations to Project Agreement, and oversight of the commissioning and testing activities. The Technical Advisor will also be responsible for providing support to Metrolinx on permits and approvals, property identification and reference plan review, environmental monitoring and auditing, and oversight of preparatory utilities works.
