Will the process of bringing this track into service make the rails level with the three tracks in the corridor? To the uninformed (me) it looks awkward sitting below the existing ballast in the corridor.
Perhaps there are early works underway for the Mount Joy station upgrades…
Given the saw dust is fresh I am assuming this is a recent development but dozens of trees on the eastern side of the Mount Joy GO station have been cut down. Both at the station platform and north of the level crossing.
A (local) article on how whistle cessation at a single level crossing will end up taking six years after metrolinx scope creep (changing requirements right before construction is to begin), retroactively applying RZ/GZ safety policies to legacy projects and general bureaucracy. The article...
I agree with your entire argument minus today's threshold for pre-emptively cancelling service using an unreliable input into decision making (local weather reports one day in advance).
If ~10cm of snow/sleet is a threshold will service reductions occur every 2-3 weeks for snow, rain and heat...
Markham and surrounding areas didn't get a drop of precipitation, in any form, until 10am. There's been light snow fall since but nothing that would suggest reducing train service. I recognize many Stouffville, LSE and RH trains have path dependencies on weather on the other end of the GTA but...
Is GO running its train operators on a stretched fleet? This thread suggests some locomotives and coaches are being refurbished.
Prior to the April 2024 and autumn 2025 increases to train service I naively assumed the constraint to more train service was labour because of the lack of hiring new...
Reaper would be the expert on timetables, but my uninformed assumption when I first saw this was going from Stouffville to Old Elm adds like 10+ minutes round trip that perhaps complicates the scheduling downstream. The same way going from Mount Joy to Stouffville adds 20+ minutes round trip...
There’s foundations for OCS in the LSE corridor that has been rebuilt between the USRC and Gerrard Square. Anecdotally, I would peg it somewhere between 20-40 foundations that have been or will soon be poured. It’s simply concrete with a fixture to bolt a pole too with conduit laid below the...
I had similar thoughts. My interpretation is the long form written reports seem have been consolidated into the second half of the slide deck and transitioned to bullet form updates on projects.
The “well will run express from Milliken to Union” doesn’t materially change much given the slow order at Finch, crawling through Agincourt, slow order at Progress and crawling through Kennedy before getting into queue to crawl into a platform at Union because we missed our original slot.
The links have been updated. The path dependency project slide is front and centre on the CPG slide deck.
I don’t know how to reconcile the “Mount Joy second platform, passing track and turn back signal at Stouffville GO” being labeled as under construction in the CPG Board report while the...

Reports and slide decks will start to be uploaded in the coming days for next Thursday’s board meeting.
I am hopeful the GO Expansion “path dependency” project slide makes an appearance instead of it being a one off.
