Gord is a progressive on paper, but he knows that his primary constituency is Roncy/High Park home owners. He is the manifestation of old school Jane Jacobs/NDP housing and planning policies. Don't think he really believes in market/supply solutions to the housing crisis. He is a good guy and...
Another reason an entrance in Crossways would be great would be to divert some of the foot traffic from the current entrance that involves crossing the streetcar entrance and squeezing onto the narrow sidewalk on Dundas. This intersection is so crowded with students from the high school other...
Probably! But why settle for cheaper?? Imagine a seamless streetcar ride from Union, Exhibition or Bathurst, crossing over the western gap, gazing over the harbour and arriving at an incredible destination on the island, magically transported from the city??
It's of course aspirational, but we...
Acknowledged! This should be looked at as the next Villiers Island/Lower Don Lands project. We need a vision of what could be!
Based on the 18m clearance and 8% grade, you'd need 225m to get that high, which is juuuuust over the distance from Queens Quay to the dockwall. Still plenty of room...

Anybody know if you could build a bridge that a streetcar could climb high enough for sailboats to cross under with that much runway? The tankers can use the Eastern Gap. You could even (one day) run a streetcar...
That photo is proof that the Gardiner causes traffic instead of reducing it. Every one of those cars is stuck trying to cram onto a single-lane on-ramp. We'd be better off with normalized intersections at Lake Shore Blvd throughout the core and then a big multi-lane entrance to the expressway...
Years ago I was an instructor at Harbourfront Canoe and Kayak centre. We used to bring kids here occasionally to teach the basics to get them ready for a harbour crossing. It was secluded and good for beginners, but the water was usually pretty gross. Not sure if they still use it.
Probably fantasy thinking but: Could they do a land swap and use this lot for a new Ontario Food Terminal? Maybe acquire/expropriate the lands directly to the west to get a footprint large enough? The current OFT site is better suited to density. Much closer to transit and other infrastructure...
Here's the economic impact statement they include:
I mentioned this in the Billy Bishop thread but I'll repeat here with additional thoughts
The question to ask about this is: How much of that GDP/jobs would be lost if the airlines move their operations to Pearson? Does Pearson have capacity...
