It’s the less special infill buildings that contribute the most to the street experience overall. Good on them for recognizing their value without an official designation. If only MORE would be saved like this to preserve what makes Toronto, Toronto.
It looks so streamline moderne now. It's clear there was an architectural intent to it that was obscured this whole time by industrial motley and decay.
Now they get rid of the entire heritage element to play off against, and yet nothing was done to add more interest to the new elements. Just meh all around. It really should have been the Zeidler submission.
I think it really is just meant for access to the other side. Definitely unusual for them to connect on the second floor but not the ground floor.
That pic more than anything else shows how sad it is to cover up original brickwork with inferior materials.
