Toronto Union Subway Station: Second Platform and Concourse Improvements | ?m | ?s | TTC | IBI Group

They are still $30M short. It's a subway thing so Ford might find the money for it.

Yeah, this really don't strike me as being a 'gravy' project. Also, when Ford made a promise just last week about more subways, cancelling a subway project would make him look pretty dumb, even to his loyal base.

His loyal fanbase wouldn't even know about this. It's not a high profile project like Transit City so cancelling it will be totally routine under the radar stuff.

One can point out that this is a "waterfront" project under the purview of Waterfront Toronto.

If they do cancel it, then Waterfront Toronto would have that much more money for the Waterfront East LRT. :)

Which LRT connection line is that? Waterfront East?
It's a new walkway to the existing 509/510 streetcar platform at Union Station; so you won't have to walk up the stairs and back down again if you are going to/from the eastbound platform.

And when it's crowded, it might be a faster way to get to the westbound platform or outside as well!

There are other plans to expand the Union streetcar platform, but that's not part of this contract, nor does this contract depend on that expansion. This simply connects to the existing streetcar platform.

It looks like it will actually replace the existing walkway, or connect to it, the stairs that go up and down to the current walkway are right in the middle of where the new platform will go.

Ah - interesting. I hadn't noticed that.

Wouldn't be surprising if the mayor and executive council were against. If they knew they didn't have the votes to stop it, they could go against it as a bone to their base.

Nothern Mage:

This is at the commission level, and considering that the members are appointed, I think it is important to find out who voted for what.
