Colin and Justin's condo at Cityplace

I like how they painted the window frames black. I thought this wasn't allowed?

typically it's not; however ... from the article:

With permission from our condo board, we spray finished the window frames jet black to disguise their standard aluminum origins and installed gauzy black Hunter Douglas roller blinds to provide adequate light baffling on even the brightest days.

Colin & Justin have their own home makeover show on HGTV (filmed in Toronto) and before that on the BBC (filmed in the U.K.).
Their condo looks very nice -- a great transformation. Turning a 3 bedroom penthouse into a 1 bedroom is not such a good idea for resale, but if you entertain a lot and never have houseguests, why not?

Very nice! Except I'd use bold colours, and showcase my handmade furniture....

But why have it at CP? This sort of thing belongs in a well-designed building--perhaps the penthouse at U Condos?

I'm sure it was a great price for the size. Also, Cityplace has some great views.

There was a show I saw from that Sara Richardson chic. A couple had bought a penthouse unit in a CP building and completely renovated it. Looked quite nice. I'm sure they got a great deal on it too...

just googled it:

all i see are 3 pics of the LR/DR ... nothing more.
very blaw beige

Great pad, nicely done. I wish they had have shown their outdoor terrace space.

I remember hearing them on the radio when they bought it. They wanted to be close to the entertainment district, but not right in it. They loved seeing the water but didn't want to be too close (because someone told them it gets too cold on Queen's Quay) so they went in the middle and bought at City Place.

I really liked what they did with the windows. Although they got permission for that, what about the black light-filtering blinds. Aren't all blinds/draperies supposed to be white on the outside?

The article was in the Homes section of the Star; that's all they showed. They said they haven't done the bathrooms yet, and they'd post more when they continue the work.

Blinds are usually designed to be white or off-white on the outside as this is a very common condo rule, Hunter Douglas among them. Even if they were black on the outside, who'd notice?

I think the blinds look great. Just thought it was interesting they addressed one condo rule (painting the windows) but not the other.

I had black solar shades in my last loft and loved it.
Even at a closer distance they are not visible at all and look just like a window without any window coverings at all (when they were closed half way you don't even see the shades at all). My last condo in their declarations was that window coverings had to be "neutral", however that could be interpreted many different ways. I really like the black window coverings as from the inside they do receed and are not noticable when closed.

Sarah Richardson's work on another PH there is nice, but very neutral and bland. Something my parents would like. It's like vanilla ice cream, but a good vanilla ice cream.
