2025 NDP Federal Leadership Race

Both provincial parties more interested in being perceived as neoliberal centrists.
Or even more to the point, both represent provinces where the energy and resource industry is an economic cornerstone. Relative to that, to have Mr. Leap Manifesto leading the federal party can smell like a chickens-voting-for-Colonel-Sanders proposition.

By comparison, Manitoba isn't so resource-dependent; and Wab Kinew, while not immune to big-tent moderation as Premier, was more generous in his embrace of Avi.

...so is Avi our AOC? Who I vote for in my by-election riding will depend on the answer here.

...then I will likely be voting for his party then. Thank you for that! /bows

So in a decade Avi Lewis went from writing ''The Leap Manifesto'', to leading the federal NDP. A dramatic rise for him. But one thing that's interesting here is probably the fact that already, you are seeing provincial NDP branches, in particular the Alberta and Saskatchewan NDP, criticizing him. Managing the provincial NDP branches will be tricky for Mr. Lewis. But also, I would argue now, the NDP doesn't mind nepobabies, seeing as Avi Lewis is one. Lewis doesn't have a seat in Parliament, it will be interesting to see if he runs in a byelection soon or if he holds off for a bit like Singh did when he won the leadership. Lastly, expect his leadership to be aggressively left wing populist.
Even Tom Mulcair kind of trashed him in a live interview on CTV yesterday.

Tom Mulcair is a joke.

Nobody on the left likes him or takes him seriously.

CTV trots him out because he is willing to continually Attack the party no matter what

I think Mulcair was the best leader since Broadbent. Most articulate, best policies.
Layton only won because of Adscam and the other Liberal corruption from the 90's and early 00's that were exposed.
He just caught the wave of lefties who switched left wing parties, but not especially for what he did.

Mulcair is anything but a joke. He was the man that built the NDP in Quebec, he briefly had them leading the polls, and he wasn't just lucky or well spoken, he was principled. A man who was in the provincial cabinet and resigned because he was asked to implement policy he thought was irresponsible.

The media mugged him for not being 'left enough' when he ran on Universal Pharmacare and Universal Dentalcare. How absurd.

This part I agree with..............

This bit is more problematic. The Orange wave was first and foremost a Quebec phenomenon.

While Mulcaire built the machine that made it possible, the turn in the polls for the NDP in Quebec can be clearly tied to Jack Layton's appearance on Tous Le Monde En Parle. (A highly watched prime time talk show in Quebec).

Layton charmed the host and the audience, and that began the momentum.

The man who wore ties for all three parties. Totally trust worthy... /s

That's all in the past though. His punditry on CTV is an absolute joke. Dude is living off on past glories and making an ass of himself on CTV.

Of course all the right-centrists love him for that now though.
