News from the Middle East

I can only assume literacy or comprehension has let you down, but no where in that article does it state that the US suggested Sri Lanka leave the survivors in the Indian Ocean. The US has asked that Sri Lanka not send the survivors back to Iran since they would presumably take up the fight once more. Ideally these Iranian sailors will spend the hostilities in a Sri Lankan hotel.
Sorry didn't think I would be accused of spreading propaganda for posting an article form Reuters.
You're not spreading propaganda, since the Reuters article is nothing of the sort. But you are demonstrating a lack of understanding. Re-read the article.

You are correct. I read the article quickly a few days ago. My bad. Its still debatable whether what the Americans did was on the up and up. Apparently at these naval maneuver events you are supposed to have little to no arms on your ship, based on what I've seen.

It's beside the point, Israel and the United States are committing war crimes (bombing of schools, hospitals, etc) in their illegal war. They are also fumbling this war badly.

I hope all the people in favour of the latest Israeli and American atrocities are enjoying the price of gas these days. Just wait til this makes the food inflation even more unbearable in a few weeks.

IMO, a big issue is how Israel is apparently pulling the strings in Washington, which plays into many of the antisemitic tropes the MAGA movement follows. We're already seeing renewed antisemitic violence here in Toronto. Just imagine how the tiki torch waving MAGA "jews will not replace us" crowd may react.

Islamic Republic went with the nepo-baby as their new Supreme leader:

Like father, like son. A hardliner with a clear disdain for the wishes of the people of Iran. If/when he gets whacked, no tears will be shed by yours truly. I am intrigued to see if this guy manages to beat Liz Truss and actually outlasts a head of lettuce in his post.

Trump doesn't understand it, but Iran is a theocracy, not a dictatorship. It doesn't matter if the new chap is martyred. The next Supreme Leader will simply step forward, and attest to even stronger anti-American views. It's akin to killing the Pope, and then the next Pope, and so on as part of trying to destroy the Catholic Church.... when they'll never run out of Popes. A democratic republic led by a popularity-driven leader with limited attention span and a reluctance to put boots on the ground cannot beat a theocracy that has an unlimited line of increasingly devout successors.

When US officials were saying last week that "the hardest hits are yet to come", they were probably referring to this:

US/Israel have established complete air superiority over the Iranian skies. Once the B-1 and B-52 bomber workhorses get into the fight, the amount of ordinances being dropped on IRGC is going to go through the roof.

I wonder how much of that is being perpetrated by their own community to stir up sympathy?

Yeah, unfortunately it looks increasingly unlikely that the decapitation strikes and they way US and Israel went about the subsequent strikes is likely to result in toppling the Islamic Republic's theocracy. I think the very least US will be contempt with is complete destruction of Islamic Republic's navy, missile stockpiles and production facilities, drone production facilities, and capturing/destroying the nuclear stockpiles. The burning wreckage that will be left of Iran will be set back decades in terms of posing any threat to anyone in the region. They will be in economic shambles and they will have no geopolitical foot to stand in the region after the indiscriminate strikes across the Arabian peninsula.

All the while, the people of Iran will be stuck with the same theocratic regime. Worst case scenario for them, really.

And wile Israel may have different goals in this conflict, they wage their war on Iran as long as US enables it. If the US wants to end it, Israel cannot go it alone. They're not capable of expeditionary force projection. And most importantly, Israeli air force cannot fly bombing runs over Iran without making use of US aerial refueling tankers.

The problem is, Iran is now reportedly at 60% enrichment of its weapons grade uranium.

With this administration and its backroom, I'm not convinced it doesn't want the US to become a theocracy.

This is more than likely not true.

Honestly the fact they are even attacking Iran like this points to them not being close to having nuclear weapons.
