Toronto Parliament Slip | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto | West 8

^I have seen renderings of an off-centre hotel (designed by a certain Danish firm) proposed for on top of the silos which would be great as it would terminate the view east on QQE.
hopefully something like the Silo Hotel in Cape Town! Although that's in the middle of a thriving tourist hotspot as opposed to a desolate area for the next few decades

No clue what the silos will end up as. But I’m pro silo. I keep thinking of the parliament slip as akin to Clock Tower Beach in Montreal - which, as the name gives away, has its character defined by a clock tower.

So maybe the slip will have “Silo Beach”, and the silo will have some sort of cultural programming - maybe we’ll finally get that Metronome project (shout out to ANYONE who remembers Metronome) and we’ll have some outdoor coliseum seating for concerts and performances. It would keep the slip an active destination.

Honestly. I’m now 100% anti housing in this area. Go build what was announced, but nothing more. Like the slip itself, and the silo -this area needs things for residents to do, work at, attend etc. this should be like Harbourfront centre part 2. Keep the slip cultural not residential.

For those not familiar, Metronome was an attempt to use the Bathurst silos for a Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Just think of a silo based cultural institution beside Silo Beach.

BLAST FROM THE PAST!

I haven't thought of this in decades (?), it's too bad nothing has become of the Bathurst Quay silos in all this time. A city this big on prime waterfront space and we can't get anything to happen here?

Still a year or 2 away from Parliament st/Queens Quay realignment with Cherry st ? And which condo's are going up just past the Gardiner on Parliament beside the distillery, are those complete yet? I just remember 1 year ago walking along that stretch and looked a little ruff needs to look nicer to have a proper connection to the waterfront.

Walking down from Parliament to the waterfront will be a mess for 5-10 years minimum. It's a shame.

It's incredible how long this city (and province) take to get anything done.
The people in charge of this are paid a lot of money and they have no incentive to do anything quickly. Even if they got full financing from the government, they’d find ways to drag it out to secure their salaries
