All of this is 100% why when people in Brampton had mentioned wanting to run LRT's down Bovaird, Queen, or Steeles after becoming infatuated with Hurontario, I told them that unless it were done without ML having to oversee everything, they'd be better off building BRT's. That, or they hire a dedicated rail company to do all the infrastructure installation with subcons doing the roadwork that does not include installing or touching the rail ties or rail itself, unless it's just to help them unload. This project is just the biggest turd that the residents and taxpayers of Mississauga can't seem to scrape off their shoes. Metrolinx is good at creating problems and afraid of fixing them. Case in point. Last week you might recall how some customer and staff vehicles were trapped when curbs were being poured without notice at the business I work for. Today, I made a special trip to work to do my regular onsite visit and both driveways are blocked off. Total waste of my time and gas. Pissed, I called the office manager at home to ask her if she got any notice of this and she had been speaking to them as late as Thursday and they didn't mention it. It is especially aggravating since I had been feeling a little unwell. When I got back home I thought I should check my temperature learned I have a fever of 102!
For the last six weeks I've had nothing but grief with both company internet connections (have both Bell and Rogers for redundancy) going awol for hours at a time. The low bandwidth Bell connection just disappears completely for hours at a time and the Rogers one has so much latency it is largely unusable.
Metrolinx in the past has flooded our building, damaged our infrastructure and seems to be completely unaccountable.
The more I experience this thing, the more I am convinced that whatever has been spent should be viewed as a sunk cost, nuked from orbit, and just have the roads put back together. This thing ain't gonna make trips any faster or more efficient. I know this will be an unpopular opinion but after seeing and experiencing this cluster for years now, I really believe it.
No pictures (I couldn't stop) but they are apparently stripping pavement in preparation for paving. Hard to tell as I just saw crews standing around doing no work but get in the way of everything. These are largely businesses on this stretch (Medical, veterinary etc) so this stuff should be done overnight.
We already have rapid lines running through the aforementioned streets - It would be significantly more affordable in the long term to do the road works to extend the roads to however long they need to be, and then expropriate the required amount of lanes to run dedicated bus lanes as they're required both ways. Queen Street may be a touch more difficult where they may need to start at Queen/Centre, but that's a discussion for another thread.
Talking to ML is like talking to a brick wall when all you have is posters and boilerplate plaques with information that are not related to anything you're asking. They're just doing what they do because the government is not holding anyone in ML accountable despite ML being a crown corporation. I find that when we look at projects like the ION LRT, Metrolinx wasn't a major stakeholder. They provided guidance and support, but they weren't the project owner.
All this to say, I hate having to keep changing my estimate on when the project is going to complete.
