In the years that passed since the original training, they probably need to replace the retirees - and those who have died from old age.

If I were a driver on this line, I would like to know the history of accidents where I work, and their causes. That's what the union is for, among other things.
Why now? We don't know what went on between the union and TTC and ML over the last several months. My guess is that the union kept asking for information and didn't get any (no surprise there), so in the end decided to go public.

You may not be wrong, but I was just pointing out that they've been operating all through the RSD so it'd be strange for them to claim a safety concern now given they didn't immediately pull all of their members after the accident.

They also mentioned more training - what on earth are you still training at this point? If they have operated the line in a revenue demo for 30 days, they know what they need to know.
No they didn't. They explicitly said that substantial completion will happen quicker than line 6 because they already finished all their operator training. People in this forum love making up things to act like the sky is falling. We are weeks away from this thing opening and no one is willing to just accept good news.

At the one fare press release earlier this week Madame Olivia was smerking and doing a mini dance, when they said they were approaching completion. I don't think her or the new TTC CEO will want take on the blame for any further delays. My bet is on a Christmas Day opening.

Has anybody said they don't want to operate the line?
From what I have seen, they are merely asking for transparency, specifically information about the accident and its causes. You would think that would be provided to the union as a matter of course. But that's not how ML operates --- not a surprise for anyone who follows this forum.

Christmas Day? As in a day when the politicos who simply *must* be there to give their vapid speeches will want to be at home with their families?

You are right Christmas Eve is a Wednesday this year, so I think the ML Communications Gods will recommend that they hold the press release on Friday the 19th. It would be the talk of every holiday party.

The delays on Line 5 are nothing to do with the City - they are all on Metrolinx and their (usually micro-managing) boss Doug Ford.
