Hudson's Bay Company

You don’t say.

So they're going with a classy sounding name instead of using the Zellers name, but selling the same stuff?
They should just go all out and call the place Zellers just to add to the pissing off of Oxford for not paying the $75 million demanded. "Just pay us the money and we will gladly go away!" 🤣

Also, I'll add this; I'm excited to see what CF is going to do with Sherway now that they have three empty anchor boxes. It's also a little worrying because it's not like they can put a Simons (too close to Square One) or Holt's (moved from Sherway to Square One). I think letting the Ontario Science Centre have a space in the Nordstrom box was a pretty nice idea. But that area on the Queensway and North Queen has so much retail, it's gonna be a bit hard to find new tenants to fill the department store shoes. The SmartCentres and other leaseholds already have so much, and Sherway had already lost SportChek to SmartCentres last year.

All the landlords gotta get creative but I feel like this is different... Just some late night food for thought....
A subway would help!

I was going to mention that a Line 2 extension or an "Etobicoke" line would be pretty cool, ending at Sherway Gardens or hitting it along the way. Just not sure how feasible it is. I would imagine it would take up the Saks lease but I don't wanna get too excited at the thought!

Sherway already has a designated location for a station — it’s appeared on several plans. And while I’m not suggesting this extension is the highest priority, I’ve always been surprised that the Etobicoke-focused Fords never pushed for it. Still, I can easily see it gaining momentum in a future round of projects, whether or not a Ford is in office.

Oooh, where would I be able to find those plans? Regardless of Ford involvement it really wouldn't be a bad idea. It would give people access to a lot of retail, and future condo developments at Sherway as well.

Was studied in detail in the 90s but it wasn't super high on the priority list as the ridership wasn't supposed to be great especially for the cost.

CF has a plan of where the subway would go, should it ever arrive.
Yup, northwest corner of the site, which equals the south side of The Queensway east of The West Mall (as per below). The underground right-of-way for the subway is protected from where it swings off the CP line from about the 427 as far as the Etobicoke Creek; anyone building in the area has to avoid anything underground that would compromise the route.

There’s gotta be a plan in motion to connect the Bloor Line to the Hurontario LRT… right? …Right?

What kind of incompetence has to exist at Metrolinx that they’d leave that gap between 2 major transit corridors?

I’ve always been surprised that the Etobicoke-focused Fords never pushed for it. Still, I can easily see it gaining momentum in a future round of projects, whether or not a Ford is in office.

The Fords overspent billions on the Line 2 extension west to buy votes in Scarborough. They probably didn’t think they needed it in Etobicoke. Conservatives don’t actually help their voters, they just rile them up into populist anger and buy their votes where they don’t already have it so they can then give back to their rich funders. So… no, Sherway Gardens or Etobicoke in general won’t get a subway at all — at least until they start to show weakening support for Doug Ford.

Maybe some of the other retailers can move into Sherway such as marshals or petsmart. I remember that area was all zoned for condos.. but who knows anymore with the current state of condo sales.

Transit would definitely help sell the area better such as subway or go train.

Also - if you look at a summary of the deal. Fairweather still gets paid if RioCan makes any money on a settlement.... So even Fairweather is like - we know you don't want us in your mall... Just pay all of us and we will all go away.

Marshalls and Petsmart are already both located off North Queen and Index in the northern SmartCentres. I'm not sure they would want to move into Yorkdale, especially considering they might not fit with the mall's vision.
