I'd rather eat Papa John's than Pizza Pizza. Did not know that about the CEO.
However, there is definitely better options I pick over either.

I will say it does depend in the franchise you go to. There is way too much deviation depending on which location you order from. You'll get a good pizza at one location, but a not-so-fresh one at another, and a bad one at another that tastes like cardboard. Some stores have an oven, some have a conveyor belt.

It's frustrating but when you do find a good location it's a godsend... There's one near where I live who do a great job, that I actually do go to from time to time. It's just unfortunate they can't be more consistent.

I suggest Domino's, Pizza Nova or Pizzaolo if you want consistency. Pizza Nova may be a bit pricey especially but they always do it right in my experience.

Still never met anyone who eats Papa John's swill up here when we already have so many good options.

The best thing about Papa John's is their garlic butter dip. It's amazing.

Pizzaiolo is my go to. Dominos and Pizza Hut are my fav large chain pizza places.

I really miss Double D's. Their pizza was unbelievably good.
 
I find the problem with Pizza Pizza is their crust. Such a shame because I like their sauce and cheese, along with some other toppings, but that crust is just wrong. Ruins the whole pizza, and I've been to a few different locations now.
Pizza Nova FTW, or maybe Dominos, but Papa John's isn't all that bad taste wise. Their crust is similar to Dominos.

Does Papa John's have the same deals Domino's does on their website? Because Domino's can get pretty generous with the coupons, and combined with the quality, that's why it's up there for me.

Pizza Nova really does hit the spot though. I may be biased, but I do think they are the best out of the mid-size pizza chains.
 
I've never had Papa John's. For some reason they won't deliver to where we live, despite it being less than a km from the nearest store. Maybe I'll have to do pickup one day.
 
Domino's is also my go-to choice for reasonably priced chain pizza. Consistent quality for the most, frequently have coupons and deals, and the rewards system to get freebies once you have enough points.

When you want to flex to your more urbane friends there's the likes of North of Brooklyn and Burattino of course, but when you just need to feed some people on a controlled budget then nothing wrong with Domino's and paying 1/3rd of the price.

After having a decent experience dining in once at FBI Pizza on St Clair, I ordered a pie for takeout and never have I felt more disappointed paying $30 for something so mid.
 
I think I've said it above, but 90% of kids' birthday parties in our son's class order Pizza Nova, which is a pretty strong indication of how the masses feel about chain pizza. Nobody would be caught dead ordering Pizza Pizza, and North of Brooklyn/Maker make the odd appearance, but are generally too expensive to feed to other people's kids.

Papa John's is owned by a weirdo and I wouldn't recommend it even without that.
 
To be fair, there are plenty of weirdo business owners. What makes his weirdness a reason to boycott his product?

Past sexual misconducts, using N-word in corporate setting, spreading conspiracy theories about Biden, specifically that he created the Russian invasion of Ukraine to distract from US domestic issues. Etc. etc.
