The Goodyear Industrial Lands in Bowmanville is a vacant property, closed in 2016, which consists of multiple manufacturing buildings that were once home to the the Goodyear Rubber Plant. The town of Bowmanville itself was constructed around the plant to house its workers. Now this 38.6 acres (156,208.7 m²) brownfield site is the largest redevelopment site in downtown Bowmanville.

Karmina Developments have acquired the site and envisioned a redevelopment scheme:

More info and history on the site can be found in the Bowmanville East Secondary Plan of 2019 here and here, and the brokerage brochure of 2018.

Fascinating!

You know, while it's been many years; I've actually been into or passed through Bomanville multiple times, as my grandparents lived their latter years in the Wilmot Creek community just to the south east.

Notwithstanding that, I was completely unaware of the Good Year site, as it's tucked in well off the main drag.

Here's the site in question, in 2018, via Streetview:

Here's a postcard view of the site from a much earlier era:

The plant had been in production for over a century (since 1905) when it closed in 2016.

Interesting to note, the site had a dedicated railway spur.........that ran along the adjacent creek, all the way down to the CN line south of 401.

It was in use as recently as the 80s, but abandoned by 2000.
