I would imagine they get some money from it....and in the case of LV might attract people to Union who otherwise might never see a public transit station.Agree, it's nothing more than an advertisement. What's in it for the city?

I am not defending or supporting it....was just answering the rather obvious question "what do they get for this?".Then do it inside. I am not sure why a public plaza should be stuck with this pod thing providing very little benefit to anyone else other than the head leasee - whose lease doesn't even include the plaza.

Well, the work has been going on for several months so I suppose the "work started on York Street moat" post is true. They were doing lots of underground work on both east and west moats since last fall and have recently started installing the re-bar for the flooring and pouring the concrete base for it. They are doing the same thing in Bay Moat too.Proof
From this afternoon, lots of little updates.
Part 1, from the Air Canada Centre (oops!) doors to the VIA Concourse, then into the Great Hall, then off towards the Ontario travel centre:

Half the doors are closed as the new, permanent route is being prepared for opening.

Looking mostly done. Better, if not exactly gorgeous. A slight increase in ceiling height, antique trims being refinished.

The connection to the Great Hall is still a mess, other side now open. There's a really low ceiling point before it expands.

The east end f the Great Hall is closed off from the exterior at the moment.

Needed: one restaurant, and the new lights, please.

Not much different here…

…but it lads to the new TD Visa Infinite lounge:

That was an amazing update. Thanks a lot. Union isn't getting enough photo love on here lately. The construction is incredible, but I'm also getting more and more eager for it to be all cleaned up. It's just been so long. But it's obviously an amazingly complicated project.
yes, the project just keeps running. I think the issue is that the completion date keeps getting rolled back, and it's been going on for so long now. Originally, when the project was approved in 2009, it was to be completed in 2015! Now we are looking at a mid-late 2019 figure.. and every month that goes by seems to add another month to the schedule.
And now with RER, as soon as the City of Toronto's work finishes up, Metrolinx is just going to keep on going with all their platform work and their new south platform.
