Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

All the stations were design and near completion when it was decided to remove the fare collectors from the station. There is no simple or cheap way to fix that design change and why they were left as is. That is what was stated at the Jan media tour at Downsview Park this year. They still can be use by customer service staff and why the wear gate setup, even for the Presto.

As for the artwork issue, the thought to allow people to type something is great, but based on people behavior these days, best to keep it turn off. You can program it for simple things, but under TTC Control.

As for walking from YRT Terminal to York U, you have to walk it one way or another if you are going to York U. The setup could have been better for a free zone, but who is paying for that area other than TTC??? If York U kick in money, then you could had a better free zone, but they didn't nor did York Region. Therefore it wasn't in TTC best interest to do so, as well being part of a design that got change years after construction was underway.

Unless I miss it and very possible, there is no long tunnel from VMC to the new YRT bus terminal, other than the surface, since it wasn't close to be ready on opening day. I expect there is, but mostly block off at this time.

This should be official policy if it isn't already. It doesn't need to be widely publicized, just tell it to those with medical issues.
 
If you can hold it until August, 2018 and have a PRESTO card, you may exit and use the washroom at a restaurant (stopover) and re-enter to continue your 2-hour journey.

Of course, if you're under 12, you can do that today (but may get into trouble being "unsupervised").

Why can no journalist get this right? Three of the six stations have washrooms. VMC has TTC ones, 407 has GO ones in the bus terminal upstairs, and when I went on opening day I was surprised to find a public washroom in the YRT terminal on the north side of Pioneer Village. Obviously intended for their drivers but open to public, sign and everything. Edit: I never saw this one mentioned online but the YRT "terminals" webpage lists public washrooms "when construction is complete" at PV--while the area is a bit torn up the washroom definitely looked open on sunday. GO's 407 washrooms are listed on GO's site. I think the bigger failure here is the TTC subway map, and station signage (at least at PV, don't recall 407) not showing the washrooms since they're not TTC owned.

Also, York U has washrooms inside the york lanes retail complex about 1 minute's walk from the doors of York University station, open fairly long hours most of the year (a quick search shows they're open at least 7AM-12AM weekdays, and open weekends as well).

So realistically only Finch West and Downsview Park don't have washrooms. It should be noted that immediately south, Sheppard West and Wilson both have washrooms, and Yorkdale has them in the mall maybe a 3-4 minute walk from the platform.

Downsview Park is the only one that I'll say is a bit of an issue because of the GO train service...if you get there and miss an hourly train, there's nothing nearby, you'd have to pay an extra fare to go back to Sheppard West and return (thankfully only one fare as I believe those washrooms are in the fare paid area). I guess long term with 15-minute RER it's not as big of an issue, but for hourly it's not great to lack washrooms. At least when the trains eventually come they have washrooms.

Kipling, Bloor/Yonge. Warden. Eglinton, Kennedy, Finch, Sheppard W, Don Mills are the only existing lines stations to have washrooms. Islington did, but close a decade ago.

TTC forgets it can take more than 30 minutes by bus to get to a subway station and thinks riders can wait until they get to where they are going to use a washroom. Going to the surface to find a place to use a washroom is non existing if you can find one as well being allow to use it. Many time I have been caught having to hit the washroom to the point I have to backtrack to a station that has one or just made it to one that will still cause me to backtrack.

If TTC is supposed to be more customer friendly these days, then it needs to add more washrooms, regardless of the cost, considering rider can really do a number on them in the first place. Never noticed the washroom at VMC, but can't count the 407 station having a washroom since its outside the pay area.

I don't think they count the ones where you have to exit the fare-paid area.

I don't think it's necessary to add more washrooms. Just make it official policy that passengers can request to use the operator's washroom (they can be escorted to and from by staff). Put a note on the TTC website somewhere and word will spread (it might not be a wise idea to publicize it too much lest staff be overwhelmed by such requests).
