Toronto Hotel X (was Hotel in the Garden) | ?m | 27s | Exhibition Place | NORR

Did the colour on this beast have to be so drab? Why does this city hate colour so much? I have an issue with all the cheap fencing around this development. Will it be used to keep the general public out? Also, what will the historic military building be used for? Is it officially part of the hotel or still used for public uses?

I agree this is not a quality designed building . However why do some diss the entire city rather than simply discuss the given project. Are you from Montreal or something?

Look around. The city is full of drabby, dreary, grey condos with either blue or green glass. This city loves grey for some reason.

I hardly think that CityPlace is an architectural failure. All the towers have some interesting details, as well as varied crowns and architectural lighting. Could the community have been better designed? Easily. But it's hardly the confusing and incoherent pile of design ideas that this tower presents.

This is much worse than Aura! At least Aura has a bit of a curve and a sloped roofline to give it some distinction, this has nothing! Also, you have to admit, the night lighting on Aura makes it a landmark on the skyline . Its proportions are much more pleasing to the eye, especially at a distance. This grey, bunky box offers nothing to the city! It looks so awkward and ill-proportioned.

I think this could go down as this city's biggest architectural disaster of the last decade, with University Place not far behind.
Im not sure there's really a lot of competition for that title, but this one would place in the top 5 easily. I'd wager about 30-40% of developments that have taken place in this city over the past decade have been architectural disasters and I may be putting that number modestly.

I was hoping this is going to be bland and forgettable, but it's just terrible. The base section with all the concrete walls beg the question...what's in there? which makes it difficult to ignore. And the tower itself is a mess.

Changing contractors for the site hasn't help getting this building completed sooner than now.

Its a so so building with too much precast on it.

People shit on Aura due to poor exterior materials and atrocious way it meets the street. The architecture of the tower itself is no worse than the average thing that gets put up in this city, and if anything, it's light features at night are a great addition to the skyline.

Hotel X is probably the worst building in the City in my opinion. I'd be ashamed to have that tower in Vaughan or Markham, let alone at such a prominent site as in the EX.
