Soft opening tonight at Northern Maverick - not sure if this is the first night or they were open yesterday - but definitely open - Private Event - tonight. And the patio area has been expanded, the fence has been relocated, as can be seen here.

My understanding is that Northern Maverick is an independent private venture by a couple of individuals from within the Toronto hospitality industry, its not part of a corporate chain. Wishing them all the best. Looks like this could be a real plus for the community.

A competitive area for bars and nightlife venues, but the market and client base is definitely there. Slight disadvantage for physically being off the main King West stretch but with the right strategy and product delivery, they could do well. Especially as being a micro-brewery which is different from everything else in the immediate district. I'll probably check them out later this autumn.

As someone who runs with BlackToe now and again: if you want to sell a boatload of beer, setting up next door to the home-base for dozens of thirsty marathoners is a smart strategy. :p

Last weekend was their friends and family soft opening. The restaurant was closed earlier this week for some additional construction and set up, but is open starting today to the public. Their official grand opening won't be for another 3 weeks until the upstairs and other parts of the restaurant are completed.
I went last weekend and sampled the food and drinks which were good. They only had two kinds of beer on tap which was an ale and a larger which were ok (I'm more into darker or stronger flavoured brews), but they do a pretty tasty old fashioned.

Sorry, my phone was about to die and I could only get a few crappy photos:

I don't think this will have problems. It's a big place, but the area is very busy and there really is no good beer around here. I can see it being a destination restaurant--I'd go out of my way to get here, just like I do for Bar Hop.
And unlike Bar Hop, this place seems like it will have the space!

The exterior at ground level is disgusting, filthy, everything, the cladding, the windows, quite shocking. I can't believe it every time I go by.
