Phew. Was concerned about that last before-and-after before recognizing the building by way of the after photo. Thanks for posting.

It's too bad the building on the left lost its cresting. Good thing those overhead wires on Yonge were buried.

Old Dundas street bridge crossing the Humber - the old piers might remain. Let's go have a look.
Here's what it looked like waa-ay back in the day. From the west bank, just north of the long gone bridge, looking SSE. The mill is on the east bank, naturally. There is a - just guessing - 50s vintage apartment building there now.
Here is a shot showing the old pier again and the new higher level bridge in the distance. Looking NNE.

Oh, it's a homage building - a careful replica of the original. Quite a nice job they did. Disney acted as consultants.

If you look to the left of the building to the left of the building to the left, there are the remains of matching details leading one to wonder if they were all part of the same structure.

That's a great observation, jaborandi. What a transformation! One would think that the property owner would have removed everything if the person didn't appreciate Second Empire. Yet the hints of the facade remain.

The roof, or rather the brick wall supporting the roof is a bit curious too. It looks like old brick though it's hard to judge from the photo.

It is indeed the piers of the old bookending the new--oh, and the present 80s-ish facade is a refacing of an earlier 50s-ish front...

LOL. Thanks for the warning. Actually, it's not too disappointing. Yes, the loss of the previous building is unfortunate, more so the loss of the whole grouping of buildings, but the current one is not bad really and the neighbourhood still retains some charm. Keep posting!

And the usual kind of caveat: there was at least two decades of parking-lot in the interrim...

The caveat is appreciated and duly noted. I don't mean to imply that the 'after' is necessarily the direct consequence of the destruction of the 'before.'

I wonder where the most long lived 'downtown' parking lot is located? The southwest corner of Dundas and Bay, only recently condo developed; was a parking lot for about 40 years - and that's only from personal observation.
