Stretching 2.8 kilometres into Toronto's Port Lands from the harbour, the 700-metre wide ship channel allows shipping traffic to reach the interior of the large industrial area. In today's Photo of the Day, submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by Randy Hoffmann, we are shown an east-facing view over the ship channel, captured at sunrise from the Cherry Street Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge. The 215-metre stack of the Hearn Generating Station can be seen on the right, while the 185-metre stack of the Ashbridges Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant is visible in the distance.
