About 60 kilometres west of Toronto, a new development is proposing to rejuvenate the historic main drag of Georgetown, the chief population centre of the town of Halton Hills. SilverCreek Group's The Residences of the Hotel McGibbon aims to intensify Georgetown's Main Street while respecting its historic character. The 11-storey condominium development—featuring a design by Studio JCI—would rise behind the restored facade of the heritage McGibbon Hotel at the northeast corner of Main and Mill Streets.

The project would feature street-fronting retail and commercial units housed behind the restored McGibbon Hotel facade, with 125 residential condominium units located above sized from 900 square feet up to 1,580 square feet. The stepped design of the mid-rise would shift the bulk of the massing away from Main Street, preserving the historic low-rise streetscape while allowing greatly increased densities. Parking will be housed in a parking structure located partially below grade.

In addition to the intimate location, the project—now taking registrations—is offering buyers spacious outdoor terraces, as well as amenity spaces like a gym, party room, roof deck, and a guest suite. The Residences of the Hotel McGibbon will also promote local cycling culture with the inclusion of on-site bicycle parking.

While local resistance is not uncommon with similarly-scaled small town main street development proposals, SilverCreek took steps to engage with the public during the project's earliest stages, including multiple presentations to the Georgetown BIA, a local organization called 'The Next Step', and Town and Regional staff. The resulting formal development application submitted to the municipality of Halton Hills in November 2015 was the culmination of several months of input.
