Last month, we introduced Opearl Developments' Sail Condominiums, a distinctively designed 18-storey project that is soon to bring further density to the quickly growing Sheppard Avenue East corridor in Scarborough. Now, ahead of the project's official launch on September 19th, we bring you an exclusive interview with Opearl's Ray Mao, who gave us a tour of Sail Condominiums' new presentation centre.

Stepping through the doors of the presentation centre, we are greeted by a large scale model of the project, which is quickly recognizable for its curving Keith Loffler McAlpine Architects design. Mr. Mao explains that the 'sail' shape—for which the condominium is namedis meant to evoke optimism and progress. "In China, a sail is considered a symbol of moving forward, toward a better future" Mao explains, foregrounding optimism and a progressive spirit as the hallmark's of Opearl's first project in Toronto.

Since Opearl is new to the Toronto market, Mao stresses that Sail Condominiums, the Chinese company's inaugural Canadian project, "represents Opearl's key principles; bringing top quality to customers at an affordable price." With high-end finishes and generously proportioned suites, Sail provides a "luxurious lifestyle" at lower prices than many of Toronto's new condos.

Sail's 180 suites are divided into studio, one, two, and three-bedroom configurations, with sizes ranging from 353 square feet to 1,412 square feet. With many of the one-bedroom units sized over 600 square feet, the project promises comfortable living, which Mao explains caters to a wide range of buyers. "Singles, couples, and families, should all be able to find good lifestyles at a reasonable price," he tells us. The suites, as well as the amenity spaces, are designed by Gordana Car Design, with quality and attention to detail serving as "the guiding principles" of the design.

All residents will be able to enjoy a range of amenities, including a fully equipped fitness centre, and a multi-purpose party room. An enclosed, central courtyard (visible in the aerial view below) will also provide a tranquil communal space for residents and guests to relax, away from the rush of the city.

The balance of comfort, livability, and affordability, Mao explains, comes in part due to Sail Condos' location at Sheppard and Victoria Park. "Although outside the Downtown core, the area is nonetheless quickly urbanizing and becoming more vibrant," he tells us, pointing to a record-high number of developments currently underway in the area.

Continuing our tour, Mao takes us into the sales centre's model kitchen, where a range of finishes and decor options are displayed. During pre-construction, a number of promotions are underway, Mao tells us. The Grand Opening Package provides "$15,000 of discounts, including $8,000 in parking savings, and a free kitchen island."
