Construction workers are being replaced by new residents, as occupancy is under way at Camrost-Felcorp's Imperial Plaza, a development that has converted and repurposed the historic 23-storey Imperial Oil Canada building at 111 St. Clair Avenue West into a new condominium building. One of the most notable aspects of the redevelopment is the preservation and incorporation of a heritage protected mosaic work by the late York Wilson called "The Story of Oil", depicting the history of the oil industry.

The preserved mosaic will be a prominent feature in the building's ground floor retail offerings, with half being displayed within a new LCBO on the east side of the building's ground floor, and the other half gracing a new 8,500 square foot Longo's urban concept market on the west side of the ground floor. The Longos location will fill a longstanding void of grocery stores on St. Clair between Yonge and Bathurst, and will include a Starbucks kiosk - a feature sure to be appreciated by residents leaving the building for their morning commutes.

On the east side of the building's St. Clair frontage, the LCBO location is closing in on its opening date of August 7th as finishing touches are installed. Signage marking the different sections of the LCBO can now be seen clearly from the street, as well as shelving for the store's stock.

The retail will prove quite convenient for residents of the new development, as well as the future residents of Blue Diamond at Imperial Plaza, a new 226-unit condo development set to rise to the immediate west of Imperial Plaza, with occupancy planned for 2017. Blue Diamond's incorporation of the 1911-built Norman-Gothic-style Deer Park United Church will continue Camrost-Felcorp's trend of repurposing buildings with architectural and historic value.
