Cherry Street's path through Toronto's industrial Port Lands includes two bascule bridges. The smaller of the two bridges, known as the Cherry Street lift bridge, carries traffic over the Keating Channel, while the larger one, officially known as the Cherry Street Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge, traverses the larger shipping channel to the south. Constructed in 1930 by Joseph Strauss and the Dominion Bridge Company, the warren truss/bascule bridge underwent a multimillion dollar renovation in 2007 - though its age is still quite apparent in today's Photo of the Day, which was submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by Vik Pahwa.
