The Regent Park community has seen a lot of changes over the nine years of the revitalization currently being undertaken by the Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) and The Daniels Corporation. With phase one of the Regent Park Revitalization completed, residential projects of the second phase are now approaching their final stages. Among the many things that have come from the revitalization of Regent Park is the Regent Park South Community Centre, now being completed by the City of Toronto.

Originally housed in a building at 203 Sackville Street one block south of Dundas, the new building is another block south. Designed by CS&P Architects, the two-storey development is located on Block 38 of the Regent Park Lands, adjacent to Nelson Mandela Park Public School. When we last checked in with the progress at the community centre back in December of 2014, the structure was topped-off and work was being done on both the exterior and interior aspects of the building.

Now more than a year later, the building is now approaching substantial completion. With the basic structure of the building complete, work is now progressing on the installation of exterior elements like the horizontal red, black, white and gray patterned cladding recently installed along the north and south façades of the facility.

Once complete this Fall, the Regent Park South Community Centre will serve the community as one of several community gathering hubs, alongside Daniels Spectrum, The Regent Park Aquatic Centre, and the new park that sits at the centre of the Regent Park Community.

We will be keeping an eye on the construction of this new community centre, and will be sure to return with updates as construction continues to reveal new details. In the meantime, you can follow the revitalization of Regent Park by visiting the Forum threads for Phase 1Phase 2 and Phase 3.
