There are several projects under construction east of the downtown core, and we have been paying close attention to Plaza's Ivory on Adelaide, under construction right next door to UrbanToronto's offices at Sherbourne and Adelaide. We see the 22-storey Hariri Pontarini Architects-designed condominium development out of our window every day, and with the tower topped-off and the crane having been recently disassembled and removed from the site, the development's final exterior elements are now being installed.
Two distinctly different types of balcony glazing are now being applied on Ivory. The inset balconies found on the 7 and 10-storey podium are being finished with a clear balcony glazing, while the upper floors of the building are being finished in a milky-white fritted glass. In the image below, both types of balcony glazing are visible on the building's western elevation.
The image below gives us a closer look at the fritted glass being applied to the upper balconies.
The addition of balcony glass is also significantly altering the appearance of the east elevation as well. In the image below, we can see that the installation of balcony glass panels has currently progressed up to the midway point of the tower. The horizontal lines of the balconies are becoming more of a counterpoint and balance to those of the vertical precast strips which create barcode-like patterns on the window sections.
Since the removal of the tower crane, the remaining heavy lifting is being carried out by a portable hydraulic crane, currently situated at the northern end of the site.
Additional Ivory information and plenty of renderings can be found in our dataBase file, linked below. Want to get involved in the discussion? Check out the associated Forum threads, or leave a comment in the space provided at the bottom of this page.
