The $331 million expansion of AIMCo and Oxford’s landmark Yorkdale Shopping Centre, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, continues to progress with excavation now proceeding on a new 298,000 square-foot retail expansion at the mall's eastern end. Designed by MMC Architecture, the new 4-storey addition is being built along Yorkdale Road, immediately adjacent to the Yorkdale TTC subway station, in space which was occupied by a multi-level parking garage serving Yorkdale shoppers up until last year.

The new addition will be anchored by a 188,000 square-foot Nordstrom, one of the first five Canadian locations for the US clothing retailer, as well as a host of new stores occupying the remaining 110,000 square-feet of space.

This addition follows on the mall's recent $220 million, 145,000 square foot expansion in 2012, and another $110 million expansion a few years prior in 2005. Once the current expansion is complete, Yorkdale will have undergone over $650 million of additions and upgrades, with over 600,000 square-feet of added space since the 2005 expansion began.

For a look into the future, we have included a video depicting a rendered fly-through of the new expansion.
