A master-planned waterfront community is one step closer to transforming some of the Kempenfelt Bay shoreline in Downtown Barrie, as City Core Developments' Harmony Village Lake Simcoe has taken the next step in the approvals process with a revised design. The RAW Design and Diamond Schmitt Architects-designed development will add approximately 1,200 homes in a row of townhomes and seven buildings ranging up to 25-storeys on a 3.5 hectare site.

Revised site plan for Harmony Village Lake Simcoe

On March 26, the Harmony Village team presented the redesigned plan for the waterfront development, and earlier this week the renderings were released.

HVLS Concept for Waterfront Piazza for the whole community

Over the past several months, the Harmony Village Lake Simcoe team has been revising the project's architectural and urban design, incorporating feedback provided by the community. The new renderings are working documents, not for marketing purposes, so they should not be considered indicative of the final vision. Further changes can be expected as more feedback comes in from both the public and the City of Barrie.

In the coming months, the new plans will be formally submitted to the City and a date for a statutory public meeting will be announced.

Harmony Village Lake Simcoe is geared both to families and toward the growing empty-nester demographic. As the baby boomer generation looks to downsize from homes which have become too big for them, master-planned communities complete with amenities, and with walkable retail and commercial spaces are likely to become a trend. Harmony Village locations are aimed at being at the forefront of that trend. Once completed, the Lake Simcoe development will contain over 1.4 million square feet of space, including more than 240,000 square feet of commercial space and 73,130 square feet of retail.
