For those who have seen yesterday's Photo of the Day, it is abundantly clear that the Entertainment District and its surroundings are bursting at the seams with under-construction projects. Peter Street Condos, a 40-storey condominium by CentreCourt Developments, is one of those projects, now rising at the northeast corner of Peter and Adelaide Streets, amid one of densest concentration of cranes in a single area on the continent.

The architectsAlliance-designed project features a pronounced departure from the firm’s more-well-known tower and podium model of high rise development, with a street level presence nearly flush with the typical tower floors above.  A massive transfer slab, which will act as the base for the tower floors, is now visible above the building's third level.

In preparation for work on the typical floors, the tower crane was recently moved from the southwest corner of the tower to a more central location. The crane was originally placed at the southwest corner to allow it a wider range of motion in regards to the surrounding buildings. Since the lower three levels were structurally completed, concrete and steel have reached an appropriate height that the crane boom can operate above the roofs of neighbouring structures.

With the tower crane optimally positioned and the bulky transfer slab poured, construction work on the 426 foot-tall tower is expected to accelerate at a considerable rate in the coming months, with a new floor formed every week.

Once completed, the development will feature retail at ground-level, before giving way to amenities for the residents, and above that the 429 suites.

We will be sure to return for future updates on Peter Street Condos. In the meantime, a comprehensive collection of information including building facts and renderings can be found on the project’s dataBase listing, linked below.  Want to get involved in the discussion?
