At the eastern tip of Charles Street, Lifetime Developments and Great Gulf Homes are creating the second phase of their two-tower gateway into the Bloor-Yorkville neighbourhood. The sleek X2 Condominiums is joining its older sibling, X The Condominium, in creating a landmark corner for residents across from the Rogers Communications headquarters.
Designed by Wallman Architects as a podium+tower complex, the back portion will rise 49 storeys with a 8-storey podium marking the street corner. With the podium topped off and the tower moving higher, construction speed will be picking up as the floor plate is roughly halved in size.
Atop the podium will sit the amenities area for the 557 unit building. Designed by landscape architects Janet Rosenberg + Studio, the space comes complete with a pool and tree covered lounging area. The interior amenities space will house fitness facilities including cardio, weight, and training rooms and his and hers steam rooms. There will also be a number of relaxation and entertainment facilities games rooms, lounges, a grand piano, and much more for residents to enjoy.
Work on the building's Mies van der Rohe-inspired exterior has also begun just above ground level with the black-blue shading of the glass and cladding starting to be installed. Standing next to its equally dramatic brother on the north side of Charles Street, X and X2 will create an iconic stamp along the growing Jarvis-Sherbourne skyline.
With construction picking up the pace, Urban Toronto will be sure to keep on top of this project and bring you the lastest updates.
