There is a field of temporary steel at Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue in North York as construction moves upwards at Emerald Park Condos. Amidst this sea of scaffolding, the central three-storey podium volume of Bazis Inc., Metropia Urban Landscapes and Plazacorp's residential/mixed-use complex is taking shape.
Construction manager TMG Builders is executing the work of the complex whose 42- and 32-storey towers include a total of 564 units. Sitting above five levels of underground parking will be retail on the ground floor, a grocery store on the second floor, third floor office space and amenity space on the fourth.
UrbanToronto forum member vz64 provided us with a few recent photos of the site.
The project was designed by Rosario Varacalli with consultants NAK Design Group on landscaping and Bryon Patton and Associates on interior design.
It was confirmed a while back that grocery giant Metro will occupy the 2nd-storey retail space, whose design Bazis announced will be "state-of-the-art unique" and completely unlike that of any other Metro location. It remains to be seen just what the designers have in mind...
Below is a street-level exterior rendering showing the retail component and how the towers engage the podium. Luminous green glass will wrap the 3rd level and clad the long lines of the towers from tip to tail.
Below are two interior renderings of the project's ground level retail area, the first one showing Emerald Park's direct access to the subway.
