The MaRS Centre Phase 2 (Alexandria, 20s, Bregman & Hamann) is coming along quite rapidly, with 13 of the building's 20 storeys rising from the corner of College Street and University Avenue. Construction on this phase of MaRS was halted in 2008 during the financial crisis, and resumed last summer with a new completion date set for the fall of 2013.

Situated along Toronto's Hospital Row, Mars Centre Phase 2 construction is funded by the Province of Ontario through Infrastructure Ontario in the form of a loan to MaRS as a complement to Alexandria's existing investment. Confirmed tenants of the new building include the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research and Public Health Ontario. Public Health Ontario is set to occupy the top four floors of the tower with a new Toronto public health laboratory desgined by Diamond & Schmitt Architects.

Since its foundation in 2000 and opening in 2005, MaRS has reached the capacity of its existing facilities. This next phase will more than double its square footage and when complete will form the largest science, technology and research centre in Canada at the corner of one of Toronto's most important intersections.
