Let's look back in today's Photo Of The Day. Here, in this picture from back in 1966, we see the construction of the Toronto-Dominion Bank Tower, the tallest of the towers that make up the TD Centre. When completed it was by far the tallest building in Canada

We've said it many times that the TD Centre is our favourite looking buildings in Toronto. The only negative is what was lost. The building in the foreground is the former Bank of Toronto headquarters (merged with the Dominion Bank in 1955). It was torn down at the insistence of architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe who argued it didn't fit in with the new complex. Here's the same view today.

While the new banking pavilion is stunning it still is a shame to have lost the previous building.
