The City Pickering is not generally known for its urbanism or walkability. But, even here, environmental sustainability and smart growth is making some progress. Plans are in the works for a pedestrian bridge to connect Pickering Town Centre to the Pickering GO Station, which happens to be on the other side of the 401. And a new 8 storey LEED Silver designated office tower is being built at the north end of the bridge which is a small step towards transit oriented development. Renderings have been released showing the designs of the new bridge and we are pleasantly surprised. We were expecting something utilitarian, instead we going to get something that could be, depending on materials, quite sexy.

We'll now enjoy this portion of the drive to Sandbanks Provincial Park.

This photo shows where the south side of the bridge will link to the Pickering GO Station. The office building in the back is the new building mentioned above, and is where the north end of the bridge will link.
