I made it down to the Union Station Market for the first time at mealtime this evening. I approached from the east, checked out all the stalls as I went through, and found lots of stuff I wanted to try.

Little Fin was the most westerly of all of them and I figured 'why not start here', choosing the Shrimp Soba Noodle Salad ($13). I had already eaten one of the shrimp when I snapped the pic below.

Really good, so I went back and told the crew so, and asked them to smile.

I'd love to read about others' experiences at the market this summer, and I'll report on my next meal from there too.

I didn't stick around to eat, but had a cold brewed coffee from Station Cold Brew:

Umm umm good. All in honour of the games!

I went to Bacon Nation, and they took way too long to make my BLT sandwich and parm fries. And the sandwich was all wet on the bottom of the box they put it in, and was really small and only a small handful of fries. After tax was $13!! Definitely not worth it. I wanna try more of the places, but I won't be doing it on my lunch again. They took up 8 mins of my lunch waiting for a simple sandwich and fries.

I got three buns from the Hot Bunzz place on Monday at lunchtime; they were fine...nothing special (and a little heavy), but tasty. I got the BLT sandwich from Bacon Nation this morning, and I wouldn't get it again. A strange sweet BBQ sauce, flabby bacon (from a place called Bacon Nation, no less!), and an overly greasy bun. Last time I trust your recommendations, Toronto Life.

Jacked Up Coffee has been parking across from the market in a classic blue Citroen truck serving Sam James espresso. It's really good (way better than the coffee available in the actual market).

Also, I assume this entire market is stuffed into a ridiculously cramped, fenced off area due to the single booth selling beer (and not even local beer). This is ridiculous. It should be allowed to sprawl across a larger area of the plaza. There must be a better way to manage pedestrian traffic.

It took me forever to get back down here for my next meal, but I went to the next place in, Toben, and had the brisket sandwich with a slaw on it ($9, but really good) and went to the next place along for the drink, Wanna Banana, from where I got a Banana-Pineapple-Coconut smoothie ($7.50, also expensive, but pretty good).

I still hope to get to a number more places here, but it's not likely I'll get to all that many before it wraps up for the year.

I did sample some Pure Leaf unsweetened iced tea, which was as honest an iced tea as you can get with a label on it. Owned by Pepsico.

It'll be the Mad Mexican next time!

Well, it wasn't Mad Mexican this time. When I wandered in tonight, I saw that the place before Mad Mexican was now Kupfert and Kim, so I went there instead, and had their Oaxaca Box—kale, brown rice, cashew cream, corn, tortilla chips, beats, daikon radish, etc. Good!

It was Wanna Banana that was replaced by Kupfert and Kim, and if I had paid more attention, I would have seen that Toben, the second stall in, was also replaced, now being 'Come and Get It'. The plan is to be back on Saturday, so maybe I will go and get it.
