TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Does anyone have news on 4439? Wasn't it supposed to be delivered in June?
It should be here by now as the last post about it was on June 17th unless it got lost on it's way to Toronto. The TTC hasn't really been posting about them riving or going into service anymore so until people can track it or see it out we can only assume that its arrived.
 
4439 is at Leslie but it haven't started its 600km run. It won't be in service for another week at this rate.
 
Someone finally relies its time to look at other suppliers for the additional 60 plus cars that were suppose to be order in 2015 once the 6oth car arrived. That will not happen until Nov this year if there is no delays to the current production delivery. This should happen in 2016.

This is on TTC agenda for next week meeting.

Still have to find the funds to buy them since the city is currently paying 66% of the current cost now.

Better have a higher strong penalty clause for late delivery with more teeth in it.

what drum left out was that the motion is in the name of Denzil Minnan Wong, which makes it more of a bowel movement than a motion.

Hopefully staff remind Council that the Alstom Metrolinx buy was at a significant premium over the Transit City pricing (even factoring for the additional capacity), and so would the new order. If the options are voided and Bombardier simply requotes at list price, is Minnan Wong going to take responsibility for finding the extra $? Like hell he will.
 
Since Alstom talked about opening a plant in the GTA, I've always hoped they would build it in Toronto. I know it's a long shot, but it would be great to have LRV manufacturing in the city. And in that case, it would be great if those 60 additional streetcars were built by them, in Toronto.

For a streetcar fleet that's Toronto's size, I think some diversity and competition is a good thing. If there are problems that affect one model, they might not affect the other, and we could see which systems are better when renewing in the future.

- In a motion going before the TTC board on Wednesday, Deputy Mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong, who is also a TTC commissioner, requests that the agency “conduct a market sounding and prequalification process” to determine whether there are other companies interested in bidding on future contracts for light rail vehicles. The current $1-billion order from Bombardier is for 204 streetcars, with an option to purchase an additional 60 vehicles. --- He said seeking out other potential suppliers now “gives us the opportunity to make an informed, educated choice.” He warned that if the TTC doesn’t test the market early, “we could be in a situation where the commission might say, we don’t have time to go out to the marketplace to see if there are other companies out there.”
