Anyone use social media to help them in riding TTC? I discovered TTC had a Twitter feed and signed up. I don't live there, but since my Kindle can do social media, I'm gonna be glad to read the updates when I visit.

I'm subscribed to the TTC's feed. It isn't anything too special, but it is nice to have. Your best bet would be to use an unofficial TTC app to determine when the next bus or streetcar is coming (subways have this info in station). I use Transit Now Toronto for TTC and find it is great and runs smoothly. Another one is Next TTC, but found it to be really slow and inefficient on my phone. Finally www.nextbus.com, the company which operates the real time data infrastructure, also provides the info for the closest stop when logged into from a mobile device.

Tried to download apps. Wouldn't happen. Checked help and found Kindle Fire is not on the list of supported Android apps. Did find I could read TTC tweets on Twitter, though.

It's not social media, but I use the text numbers at streetcar stops; they're pretty accurate

Not to take the conversation afield but there's an interesting report on social media and public transportation, recently published by the Transit Cooperative Research Program. Though it's published by an American body, it uses data that was provided by the TTC as well! Here is the link, http://www.trb.org/Main/Blurbs/167067.aspx.
