Toronto Strachan Avenue Overpass | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Nice.

Now what's all that activity for on the old bypass bridge?

Also, does anyone know if this new bridge will be only 1 lane both ways? That is insufficient for the vehicle volume in this area.

One lane of traffic each way with a new off ramp to the west that still has to be built with 2 southbound lanes only. Live to learn with one lane of traffic.

With the overpass open, rest of the tunnel can be built where the temporarily road was.

In the photo below, you will see a white spot on the left up the road that is the island and that is where the off ramp for Liberty St will be once the grading is done for it. Shot July 22.

The rest of the road should be open by Thanksgiving as there not much to be done now.

The slab for the road and sidewalk have to be pour as well installing the rest of the handrail.

Once the road is pave, bike lanes will be added to the bridge as well moving the lanes, including widening them.

The goal is still get the other 4 tracks into operation by Dec for the 2nd tunnel.

Hydro never fix that leaning pole and I understand it cost the contract close to $100,000 because of this pole and a few issues with hydro.

They are rebuilding the intersection on the north side to change the side road alignment to Strachan Ave.

Some art work has gone up on the retaining wall to the west and not bad looking, as well needing more of it.

There's been a lot of adjoining condo construction on the South side of the bridge…1 lane in each direction with the bike lane closed. Kind of annoying to bike over, as there's really no safe way to do that other than to take the lane

Is anything going to go on top of those beams, or will it be possible build over them at some point?
Nothing going to built on top of those beams.

As for building over it, none at this time and could be done if the money is right for Metrolinx. Big problem to do that will be the lack of centre support and everything will have to carry the load on new foundation wall which have next to no room to be put in now. Don't see anything anytime soon for the tunnel roof, if at all.
