You have no idea what you're talking about. Are you an architect? An engineer? Do you work in construction? Do you know anything about elevator requirements regarding capacity and space? I doubt it. Trump already has a bank of elevators for hotel guests, a bank of elevators for hotel staff, a bank of elevators for condo residents, and the obligatory fireman's elevator. Adding another ten stories would have expanded the number of condo elevators quite significantly.

A re-zoning application for a supertall Trump were submitted and subsequently approved. Are you suggesting that these did not pass one engineer or architect ? I understand the larger units were later reconfigured to smaller units to boast sales but, that happens a lot with the number of elevators largely staying the same. We're not talking about office tower capacities here. I do enjoy your photos from the hoist though.

It's tall. That's obviously the only thing that matters.

Persian Gulf is calling you.

No, not at all. I'm suggesting that that previously proposed tower likely had higher per-square-foot-costs because of less floor space per unit, due to having more elevators, and subsequently, that this made the tower financially unfeasible. If the rumour about purchasing the National Club is true, then this would have been one way they could have solved that issue. It would have given them a bigger floor plate to work with - allowing them to have their optimal unit size, along with the optimal number of elevators, and sell everything for the price that they wanted.

So yeah, it was a money issue, but it's not as cut and dry as you seem to suggest.

At 2:25am on a Sunday night (Monday morning) the welders are still busy working on the spire area.

Holy crap. That's pretty amazing. I'm also in the camp that's second guessing my investments in DSLRs! Thanks for the tip. And continued success with your shots.

yup. and the camera i have is almost 3 years old... technology has improved since then, so a camera in that range today would probably take even better shots/more features (i bought mine right before the "panorama" camera line came in :( )... though i wouldn't dismiss DSLR's at all. they're a whole new level of camera... i'm just too lazy to carry something like that around, i prefer something that fits in my pocket. hence, point and shoot.

Hey Wopchop, thanks for giving us such great info on this project. Can you please confirm if the lower floors will see an improvement in the way it looks, like in the east end of the building, where there are windows and the vents all over the place. it looks really messy and poorly patterned...if u know what i mean...

I'm just happy that Toronto is getting so much development that will help this city expand it's tax base in the coming years. A lot of cities aren't in this position, making Toronto very fortunate. Hopefully some of this money is directed to improving transit. Buildings like Trump, Shangri La, and Four Seasons will be paying loads of taxes. These are developments that will pay more municipal taxes than most but not use as much. Surely a net gain for the city.

In terms of appearance, I think Trump is looking better every day. I do however wish there was some more space between it and Scotia Plaza/BAC. But a great addition to the skyline:)

took a quick cellphone shot while walking east on adelaide today

What did he say??? details!!!! DETAILS!!!!

the news reporter chick was talking about how the spire was erected on saturday, bringing it's height up to over 900 feet, and how it's now Toronto's 2nd tallest building and the tallest residential structure in Canada... also mentioned the other tall gains FCP and CN tower and how they're all so close to each other... Also showed some kickass aerial shots of the tower with the spire...
